2. This isn't a "lesson" about why not to take nude photos.

The problem is not that someone took personal pictures, or that they weren't "secure" enough. That's the same conversation that places blame on rape victims and not their attackers. This was and should be talked about like any act of sexism and violence.

Yes, the problem is that they weren't secure enough. People placed their personal shit on an Internet service and (reportedly) the Internet service got hacked. People need to get smarter and MORE AWARE about where their personal shit gets stashed. I bet a whole lot of compromised people didn't understand the concept that their pics were insecurely stashed on iCloud.

I particularly love Mary Elizabeth Winstead's naivete from the same article, thinking that:

There is no such thing as "deleted". Just because they may have some option labeled "erase" doesn't mean it really went anywhere, especially in a cloud context. You may not see it on your phone/tablet. You may not see it in YOUR view of the cloud service (assuming she even deleted it properly). But it is still there lurking, waiting to be discovered.

This is shit that people need to know about the world they live in.

There's legitimate feminist/human rights issues here. Depending on geography, the actual act of disclosing most of the images (especially without intent to do emotional harm) may not itself be a crime. For example, when ScarJo's pics were leaked, the guy was only prosecuted for hacking, not for the actual disclosure of the pics and whatever damage they caused.

But by all means, let's bog it down with non-factual bullshit talking points. I want to be kept in my garden and fed bullshit like a fucking plant.
