Watched Schindler's List last night. Quite a story.

^ You know, I'm still not sure entirely what I think about that movie. On the one hand, it's pretty much the most straightforward depiction of the death camps I've ever seen, especially from Spielberg, and his movies are usually full of bullshit cheez and sentimentality.

On the other hand, I can't help but feel a little sick about how that movie won a ton of awards and praise for Spielberg, and I think it's fair to say he used Auschwitz to boost his career.

So I'm kind of addicted to buying DVD's. I have no life anymore so I watch a lot of movies. There was an ad on Yahoo the other day for Hollywood Video offering their "clearance sale" on used DVD's. It was 3.99 each or 3 for 10, 5 for 15, 8 for 20. I scanned through the list adding anything of interest to my "cart" with the intention of paring it down to 8 at the end when I decided what I really wanted. At around 2 am (midnight west coast where hollywood's headquarters is located) I noticed that it was no longer letting me add stuff to my cart and that of the 21 movies in my cart, 4 of them had changed their price to 4.99 from 3.99 and the rest were now priced at $0.00. So I just checked out to see what would happen. It took my credit card payment and I got an email saying "thank you for your order" listing all 21 movies for 22 something after tax.

Any guesses on whether they actually ship them all??

hoping I'm not the only one still working this week. Other's should suffer too.

I'm working tomorrow and Wed. Then I got 5 days off, work 3 days, and have 4 more off.

My random thought is that I'm happy to have the time off because my knee is buggin me so much it's uncomfortable to sit at a desk for 8 hours. My kneecap is stickin out almost an inch from the swelling under it, and the swelling is starting to move out around my knee too. Went to the doc and got some anti-inflammatory pills (they've done nothing). I'm trying to wait until the 1st of the year before getting the MRI and everything since I haven't touched my insurance deductable this year and I don't want to spend it 10 days before it resets.

^^Good idea. I'm getting an arthroscopy on Dec. 30th rather than later so as to get some insurance money this year (we'll be well past the deductible, I believe). My new years will be fucked, but whatever... I just want to start running again.

Among other things, I procured a $24 Impecca media player for my mom for Christmas. I decided to load some mp3s on it to get her going. But, I was having a devil of a time with it, thinking its battery wasn't holding a charge because it'd turn off when unplugged from power/USB. I was a day away from not giving her the gift at all, thinking it was defective.

Nope. It turns out that there's a (somewhat subtle) on-off switch, but it's ignored if it's actually plugged in. I had it set to "off" all this time, and it dutifully would turn off once unplugged. <groan> Anyone else see this as a safety hazard?

The author is very bukdow-ish in spots, with a libertarian twang toward the end (just finished reading it). I mostly mentioned the Japanese restaurant because it was full of quietly eating Japanese (and not a big Saturday night crowd so I didn't have to wait an hour).
