Higherwarrior 05-26-2008, 11:26 PM finally- we put some distance between us and them. game, set, match. series tied at 2-2. game MVPs: dice rip j-max that's about it. without those guys, this is a blowout loss. we need to play a lot better and have some halfway decent officiating in game 5 if we want to have any chance. Higherwarrior 05-26-2008, 11:27 PM hayes hit a 3! amazing! Tahoe 05-26-2008, 11:27 PM An exciting 73-70 contest. The refs will royally screw our buttholes if that happens. Win it in 6... Higherwarrior 05-26-2008, 11:30 PM here's one semi-interesting stat from game 4: this is the first game where the team who won the opening tipoff has gone on to lose the game. BubblesTheLion 05-26-2008, 11:31 PM WTF? no 'yes sir!' from rip in the postgame interview......? Tafoya was armed with a machette this time. Tahoe 05-26-2008, 11:32 PM here's one semi-interesting stat from game 4: this is the first game where the team who won the opening tipoff has gone on to lose the game. I'm trying really hard to buy into this thing, but I don't do superstitious (sp?) Tahoe 05-26-2008, 11:36 PM Flip just said what I was thinking during the game... The refs fuck up when they aren't CONSISTENT. He didn't say that but kind of like it. The refs called tonights game way WAY different then they did any other game I've seen this year with us. Timone 05-26-2008, 11:37 PM I can't wait to hear what Doc Rivers has to say. Tahoe 05-26-2008, 11:39 PM 5 blocks for Rasheed. Timone 05-26-2008, 11:40 PM Celtics made 11 more FTs than FGs. Tahoe 05-26-2008, 11:40 PM Billups only had 10? Ouch! Tahoe 05-26-2008, 11:41 PM I'm waiting for Celts FT % DE 05-26-2008, 11:41 PM Celtics made 11 more FTs than FGs. And FTs accounted for almost half their point total. Timone 05-26-2008, 11:41 PM FGs: 21-66 31.8% Tahoe 05-26-2008, 11:43 PM NVM...i thought that was FTs DE 05-26-2008, 11:43 PM I think that's FG SDB. They shot 82% from the line I think. Timone 05-26-2008, 11:44 PM Yes, that's FG, even though it did feel like they got to the line 66 times. w3stfa11 05-26-2008, 11:44 PM Celtics never led. Once we got the lead, our defense kept it that way. Game 5 will be tough... Black Dynamite 05-26-2008, 11:44 PM why does doc look like someone socked him in the face? DrRay11 05-26-2008, 11:45 PM Tough is an understatement with shark-toothed zebras... Big Swami 05-26-2008, 11:47 PM Notes: Pistons vs. Refs 1-0 Maxiell came up HUGE. He'll get some more time next game fo sho. Rip played smart ball tonight. Chauncey's game is obviously in the shitter right now either because of the hamstring or because of whatever usually happens to his game. The rest of the team is covering for him incredibly well. LOL @ Jarvis' 3-pointer in garbage time. Can I say enough fantastic things about McDyess? What a game. What a player. Tahoe 05-26-2008, 11:47 PM Yes, that's FG, even though it did feel like they got to the line 66 times. I believed it Higherwarrior 05-26-2008, 11:48 PM yeah i'm not into superstitions either- it's bad luck to be superstitious. I'm trying really hard to buy into this thing, but I don't do superstitious (sp?) Higherwarrior 05-26-2008, 11:52 PM i'm glad that while billups stunk for most of this game, he did hit a crucial 3 down the stretch. i think while his hammy might still be bothering him, his main problem now is that he's still yet to recapture his conditioning. well maybe not that so much. but he has not yet found his rhythm yet. that is crucial to a shooter and once you lose that it takes a long time to get it back. once he hits his rhythm again, he'll be fine. right now he's overthinking things too because his shot is not falling. hopefully he can be big for us in game 5 because we'll need it. this game was a huge struggle, against the refs as much as the celtics. but if they keep calling the game like this, we'll need to finda way to stay out of foul trouble. having rip, sheed, dice, and pretty much everyone else who played, in foul trouble for large portions of the game KILLED us tonight. i'm so glad we were able to win in spite of the officiating. i fear though that we'll be blown out in boston if they keep this crap up. DE 05-26-2008, 11:53 PM Can I say enough fantastic things about McDyess? What a game. What a player. I like how Mitch Albom put it the other day about his motivation. We always talk about hoping for a player to get a ring and McDyess absolutely deserves one. I still remember that shot he hit 3 years ago against the Spurs and starts shouting and high-fiving the crowd. DrRay11 05-26-2008, 11:57 PM Yeah... I want to win more and more just b/c of Dyess. Seeing him put in that kind of effort every day is great to watch. Timone 05-26-2008, 11:57 PM I still remember that shot he hit 3 years ago against the Spurs and starts shouting and high-fiving the crowd. I remember that too. And I also agree that he definitely deserves a ring. Tahoe 05-27-2008, 12:01 AM You know who I think is really important kind of behind the scenes is Dice. I mean we don't have that dominant center so when Stuck drives down there and gets caught, he can dish to Dice for a 12 footer. And it becoming increasingly important, imo for him to knock that shot down. Rip and Dice do their dance too. Where Rip dishes to him. If Dice plays like shit, I'm not sure we win these things. Cogent :) Tahoe 05-27-2008, 12:03 AM Oh Dice takin a nice lil swat at the team about excuses. 100% correct though. Tahoe 05-27-2008, 12:06 AM I'm thinkin Max don't like the media. He cracks me up. Higherwarrior 05-27-2008, 12:13 AM nothing in the world would make me happier than seeing dice raise the MVP trophy of the finals. well......i guess jessica alba giving me a BJ and then fixing me a sandwich would top that. but it would be real nice to see that first thing happen. what was it i said again....? Higherwarrior 05-27-2008, 12:15 AM j-max doesn't 'sheed wallace: "both teams played hard"' dislike the media. but you're right- i think he definitely shies away from it. I'm thinkin Max don't like the media. He cracks me up. Timone 05-27-2008, 12:37 AM As bad as Jalen Rose is as an analyst, Damon Jones is worse. Atticus771 05-27-2008, 12:41 AM As bad as Jalen Rose is as an analyst, Damon Jones is worse. I agree. The M&Ms thing was cute, but... Also, just got three tickets for Friday's game. Happy early birthday to me! Kstat 05-27-2008, 12:42 AM I loved it when Damon was blatantly ignoring ESPN's arrows during the highlight clips and just talking about his own thing. Timone 05-27-2008, 12:53 AM Bwahahahaha @ that crack that Matt Winer dude made on Damon. "Isn't the entire league your ex teammate?" He said something like that. I laughed even harder when he said Ira Newble is a great player. Tool. Atticus771 05-27-2008, 12:54 AM Damon's somehow proud of being a journeyman that nobody really wants. BubblesTheLion 05-27-2008, 02:18 AM Damon's somehow proud of being a journeyman that nobody really wants. Wouldn't you ? Cross 05-27-2008, 05:05 AM Dice coulda done more damage but he had 3 to end out the first half. we need this kinda performance from him everyday and fuck a 39 free throws Laxation 05-27-2008, 06:50 AM Thanks to Hayes for a nice big LOL when he stepped into the game. Air balls are great to watch... As for the reffing, to me it seemed really bad and one-sided. Is this just a case of me ignoring the bad fouls that Boston got, or was it an atrocity all round? Glenn 05-27-2008, 09:39 AM It was nice to see the Pistons erupt last night. Dice was just incredible. (21 & 16!!) Chauncey seemed better than game 3, for sure, but as with most leg injuries, it really effected his jumpers. Not one of Stuckey's best games, IMO. Not often you see a game where both teams only combine to make 3 threes. If we get 13 more FTs than they do in Game 5, we should be good. And no, I'm not counting on that. MoTown 05-27-2008, 09:51 AM I don't feel like reading all 400 of last nights posts, so here's a thought: Not to put a damper on the mood, but Boston gets away with a lot, especially on the offensive end. Cassell and Ray-Ray love to use that off arm, and I have yet to see it called. Garnett uses that shoulder to get space (much like Dwight Howard), and he gets foul calls when he goes out of control. The Pistons have been getting everything called on the other end, especially when they're being held. It seems like two different sets of rules to me. Still, it hasn't been that significant in the final score, except the Pistons should have won by about 40 yesterday. DrRay11 05-27-2008, 11:15 AM Yeah we've all been bitching about that... Big Swami 05-27-2008, 11:22 AM The reffing was incredibly awful last night. Good to see the P's overcome the league's predestination. WTFchris 05-27-2008, 11:38 AM I didn't see a whole lot of the game last night. I watched the Wings and flipped back to the Pistons on breaks. That block on KG was sick though. Glenn 05-27-2008, 11:56 AM TRUE OR FALSE? If the Pistons win Game 5, there is no way that they will lose this series. DrRay11 05-27-2008, 12:03 PM False. BubblesTheLion 05-27-2008, 12:09 PM This may seem crazy, and I don't really care. If the Refs are indeed trying to screw us, and I think it's god damn certain at this point. IN game 6 we should shoot 25 three pointers and have the chips fall where they may. Going to the lane is only going to result in non calls or offensive fouls. Boston is going to be given authority to molest us. They won't even see it coming... BubblesTheLion 05-27-2008, 12:15 PM http://www.need4sheed.com/images/may_26_08_maxiell.jpg DE 05-27-2008, 12:18 PM I admit I'm a Detroit homer and not too bright, but after reading tons of articles all day today about the game, not one writer has come out and said that the officiating was awful. You get a lot of these "Boston was able to remain close in the first half thanks to 827898 attempts at the line versus Detroit's two" but nothing flat-out saying how bad it was. Atticus771 05-27-2008, 12:30 PM In response to Glenn, I say TRUE. I don't like the "no way" language, but I can't bet against the Pistons to lose a series with a 3-2 lead. They haven't done it yet in this run they've had, and I don't think they're about to do it now. My only concern at this point is that we'll come out flat in the first 5 minutes of game 5 and dig an 8 point hole again. I believe that the effort will be there, but the shooting and quick defensive rotations may not be. We were able to win last night largely because of forced turnovers, active hands in the passing lanes, and good digging on the post from our guards. If we can do those things we should be in good position to win game 5. Rob Parker mentioned this in one of his articles this morning: this series looks a lot like the Indiana series in 2004. We split the first two, split the second two, stole game 5 in Indiana, and wrapped things up at home in game 6. I really have a feeling that could happen again this year. If we come out strong and don't let Boston get a load of confidence right away, we can definitely win the game. Regardless, I don't think there's a chance that we lose a game 6. None. [Disclaimer: This is assuming that all players make it to the game and play. If something unforeseen occurs, all bets are off.] metr0man 05-27-2008, 01:28 PM My only concern at this point is that we'll come out flat in the first 5 minutes of game 5 and dig an 8 point hole again. We were able to win last night largely because of forced turnovers, active hands in the passing lanes, and good digging on the post from our guards. If we can do those things we should be in good position to win game 5. With the way this series has gone, if the Pistons don't yet realize that getting to aggressive intense starts is the key to winning, then they don't deserve to go to the Finals period. Starting out flat would be unconscionable at this point. WTFchris 05-27-2008, 02:09 PM I don't see how you can come out flat knowing you have to win another game in Boston. Maybe if you knew you could simply hold serve, but that isn't the case. Big Swami 05-27-2008, 02:22 PM http://www.need4sheed.com/images/may_26_08_maxiell.jpg Natalie Sitto is fucking cool. Glenn 05-27-2008, 02:31 PM Natalie Sitto is fucking cool. Would ya? Tahoe 05-27-2008, 02:31 PM I wouldn't be surprised if we lose G5, come home and win G6 setting up a pretty exciting Game7. Just win baby! Big Swami 05-27-2008, 02:50 PM Would ya? Stop. Glenn 05-27-2008, 02:52 PM Stop. You're right, that was sophomoric. So, would ya? Big Swami 05-27-2008, 04:24 PM You're right, that was sophomoric. So, would ya? Seriously, knock it off. No. Glenn 05-27-2008, 04:25 PM Sorry, but I bet she has nice volcanoes. I AM REFERRING ONLY TO VOLCANOES IN THE CONTEXT OF A BACKYARD SCIENCE PROJECT Higherwarrior 05-27-2008, 04:46 PM don't know where you were reading but i've seen and heard plenty of people talking about last night's (poor) officiating. http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.ssf/2008/05/detroit_pistons_94_boston_celt.html Uncle Mxy 05-27-2008, 05:47 PM here's one semi-interesting stat from game 4: this is the first game where the team who won the opening tipoff has gone on to lose the game. I bet we'd have better luck winning the tap with Maxiell or McDyess jumping it up. My sense is that Rasheed doesn't give a fuck about the opening tap, which is why we lose it so often. UxKa 05-27-2008, 06:39 PM ^^ Yeah I used to give a quick 'woohoo' when we won the tip, but with Sheed jumping for it I don't care anymore and am fine with the fact that we won't win it. I wonder if that has anything to do with us generally killing teams in the 3rd these last 2 years. Kstat 05-27-2008, 06:53 PM swami, mind if I borrow that sig? Higherwarrior 05-27-2008, 07:40 PM nice story on dice: http://www.sportsline.com/nba/story/10843569 Glenn 05-27-2008, 09:49 PM It seriously looks like Sheed intentionally taps the ball to the opponent. Tahoe 05-27-2008, 09:57 PM How does that work? I'm having a brain cramp. If you lose the tip you still get the ball in the 2nd and 4th? I guess what I'm saying is does it really matter who wins the opening tip? DrRay11 05-27-2008, 10:02 PM You get the ball to open the 2nd and 3rd if you lose the tip. Tahoe 05-27-2008, 10:05 PM So you're really wanting to win the tip so that you get the ball in the 4th. BFD! Higherwarrior 05-27-2008, 11:27 PM no. it doesn't matter one single bit who wins the opening tip IMO. i was just throwing out pointless stats. even if it's a close game that comes down to one posession, i don't think who started the quarter with the ball 12 minutes earlier really matters. Kstat 05-27-2008, 11:33 PM It certainly helps, especially if the team that ends the 3rd with a basket starts the 4th off with posession. Tahoe 05-27-2008, 11:36 PM ^ I know you weren't saying was some big deal, I was just thinking about the opening tip for the first time in a bazillion years...and it dawned on me (with Docs help) the opening tip don't mean SQUAT! Tahoe 05-27-2008, 11:36 PM Unless...if the team that ends the 3rd with a basket starts the 4th off with posession. :) Higherwarrior 05-27-2008, 11:55 PM i don't think it makes that big a difference at all. think of the number of posessions that take place in the 4th quarter. i hardly think the opening posession has THAT much significance. nothing can happen in one posession to start the 4th that can affect the rest of the entire quarter that much. even if you ended the 3rd quarter with momentum in your favor. Higherwarrior 05-27-2008, 11:56 PM the fact we're even having this discussion shows how crazy we're all going waiting for game 5 to start. If they can't come out with energy and intensity for THIS, then they are pussies who should be broken up this offseason. Wilfredo Ledezma 05-28-2008, 04:43 PM I'm feeling good about tonight, I don't know why. I just feel like that if we don't get off to a terrible first five minutes of the game, then we're going to be fine. In the first and third games it took us awhile to get our first bucket, and even though we later had the leads in both games, it just gave me that sense that we weren't going to dictate the final outcome... Damn those LBF. Joe Asberry 05-28-2008, 08:29 PM i think Ainge liked Scalabrine because he's got a winner brain or sth ridiculous like that and he gave him 15 mil for 5 years...if any of the Bostons bench guys contribute or outplay our bench guys we are doomed anyway...make or break! this game will decide who will win this series, we need everybody to play well to win another game in Boston, i hope we can match their intensity at the start Timone 05-28-2008, 08:31 PM WHAT DOES DOC KNOW? Glenn 05-28-2008, 08:32 PM WE'VE GOT ALPACAS, BUT THEY HAVE SCALABRINE WAIT, WE'VE GOT ALPACAS THAT LIVE INSIDE VOLCANOES, WE'RE GOOD Black Dynamite 05-28-2008, 08:32 PM So....... Which one of ya'll is Doc Rivers? This was obviously done to spite WTFDetroit. Maybe he was Patricia? Timone 05-28-2008, 08:32 PM You thought Game 5 against Cleveland last year was bad? Joe Asberry 05-28-2008, 08:35 PM i have to admit i really like their intro video AHHH FUCK EM LETS GO PISTONS, THIS WHAT YOU PLAY FOR, WE MUST WIN THIS ONE!!!! Atticus771 05-28-2008, 08:37 PM Their music is very appropriate: thuggish music for a thuggish team. Joe Asberry 05-28-2008, 08:39 PM lets hope Tay and CB hit some shots today...we can't need some crappy performance of them today Timone 05-28-2008, 08:40 PM Ray Allen's wearing a sleeve. Must be trying to channel his inner Kobe. Atticus771 05-28-2008, 08:41 PM Frickin Rip: scoring machine at the end of the game, turnover machine otherwise. Timone 05-28-2008, 08:43 PM Surprised to see we're 8 points in and we don't have 0. KP43 05-28-2008, 08:43 PM Boy if Sheed could come up with a big game tonight.... Timone 05-28-2008, 08:44 PM How did Perkins put that one in? God, he's phenomenal. Atticus771 05-28-2008, 08:46 PM If we turn it over or take bad shots like this the whole game and fail to get back in transition, we're toast. metr0man 05-28-2008, 08:47 PM Unless we deflate the early start right now, we will lose. The aggressor early on pretty much has control the entire series. Two great teams, two shitty coaches, it's pretty much an intensity and energy contest. KP43 05-28-2008, 08:50 PM Wow Chuancey...wide open.... Timone 05-28-2008, 08:50 PM BANG! KENDRICK PERKINS! KP43 05-28-2008, 08:53 PM Has Sheed come to play tonight? Well ya you saw him hit that half court 3 in warm ups right? Timone 05-28-2008, 08:53 PM Kendrick Perkins again! Mama, there goes that man. KP43 05-28-2008, 08:55 PM OOOOOO shit lets go Sheed!!!!!!!!!! It's nice he's makin' his 3's but when he has Perkins alone on the block he needs to pound it in. Timone 05-28-2008, 08:56 PM Glad to see Sheed come back to take that one after he missed the one before. Tahoe 05-28-2008, 08:57 PM Aint nobody nervous up in this joint metr0man 05-28-2008, 09:01 PM SLOW START and being beaten to rebounds. This is not a good omen. Need to stop giving these scrubs offensive boards though. I mean, fuck... metr0man 05-28-2008, 09:07 PM Well the quick start didn't happen. I like Billups' energy, and our defensive hustle at the end there. I feel cautiously optimistic. w3stfa11 05-28-2008, 09:07 PM Nice block by Tayshaun. It was very close to goaltending. 23-23 end of 1st. UxKa 05-28-2008, 09:10 PM At least they didn't come out flat. I feel good about this game. Timone 05-28-2008, 09:11 PM For some reason, I doubt Rasheed will continue his 36 point pace. w3stfa11 05-28-2008, 09:12 PM Perkins!? Come on Detroit! Tahoe 05-28-2008, 09:13 PM Good basketball my ass. What a douche Timone 05-28-2008, 09:13 PM That's not a flagrant. sike Tahoe 05-28-2008, 09:13 PM He didn't even attempt to go after the ball w3stfa11 05-28-2008, 09:14 PM Van Gundy is a dumbass. Tahoe 05-28-2008, 09:14 PM It absolutely IS a flagrant, imo. KP43 05-28-2008, 09:14 PM That was a great sequence...too bad it wasn't capped by a Mad Max Slam. Flagrant...it was kinda a hard foul. Tahoe 05-28-2008, 09:14 PM where was he going for the ball? w3stfa11 05-28-2008, 09:14 PM He didn't even attempt to go after the ball Bingo. And he was in the air. Timone 05-28-2008, 09:14 PM How could he go for the ball? Maxiell was soaring to the Heavens. DE 05-28-2008, 09:15 PM IMO the whole flagrant thing is stupid. You're supposed foul like that in the playoffs. Tahoe 05-28-2008, 09:15 PM If you want to allow 'no layups' thats fine. Just set the rules. Detroit would be happy to play by them. Timone 05-28-2008, 09:16 PM There, Max dunked it. Now quit crying, Tahoe. jk KP43 05-28-2008, 09:16 PM Oh boy. NICE HUNTER!!! Damn straight. You fuck with Max, you're going to pay the price. Atticus771 05-28-2008, 09:18 PM Jackson and Van Gundy are a bit off it tonight. No, that wasn't the same exact play by PJ Brown. The first time there was no play on the ball whatsoever. The second oop there was. Timone 05-28-2008, 09:19 PM Tough night for Brown so far. I'll take it. One less scrub to kill us.
