In Game 2 on Sunday night, the Pistons picked up three technical fouls complaining about calls. The trio of officials in that game included Crawford. In Thursday's Game 1 loss at San Antonio, Garretson was among the three officials.

In eight playoff games this year when either Dan Crawford (there is also a referee named Joe Crawford) or Garretson were part of the officiating crew, the Pistons own a 1-7 record.

In playoff games without either Garretson or Dan Crawford, the Pistons are 11-1.

Officiating usually becomes an issue when a team loses, and the Pistons have lost two straight, so go figure.

Coach Larry Brown, for one, wants his Pistons to forget about the whistle-blowers starting tonight in Game 3 of the NBA Finals against San Antonio, which holds a 2-0 lead in the series.

"I think, sometimes, we focus in on things we have no control over and we have to keep playing. I told them that,'' Brown said Monday. "To let things we have no control over affect us is silly. I've said this again and again.

"You can't go into games worrying about the way the game's going to be officiated. You've got to go in trying to win the game, trying to play the right way. I don't think San Antonio is worrying about it."

It's a point he continually has addressed with his team - during timeouts, before games and at practices.

Still, it's apparent the Pistons and Brown can get frustrated, especially when certain officials call the games.

For example, in Sunday's game, the Spurs were at the free-throw line 34 times to 16 for the Pistons.

Those are numbers that stand out to the Pistons, just like their record with Dan Crawford or Garretson calling the games.

The Pistons better put this game away sooner rather than later, or eventually the officiating is going to catch up with them. You don't don't don't want to put the specter of a Lakers/Celtics finals on the shoulders of the officials. no way in hell.

What choice do the Pistons have here? The Celtics are going to shoot over 40 at the line ON OUR FLOOR. What do any of you think is going to happen in Boston. Either No calls for everything the Celtics do, or another free throw contest. Except we won't have carear games from Dice and Max again.

I should have stopped watching this shit after game one. Even if we win this tonight, what is the point, we'll lose in 7, IF WE ARE LUCKY.

Even if we win, this was just a brutal game to watch.
