The only good Cottage Inn is the original restaurant in Ann Arbor. It's completely different from the two or three franchises I've had pies from.

Hungry Howies is definately solid for a double cheese double peperoni pizza.

Also, solid sig.

Dearborn is like this. It has at least one good Thai place (Thai Palace), but it has an abundance of Chinese places and they are all terrible. Two in particular:

* Kowloon - don't even think of going here. Kowloon is for old people. They don't even serve rice with their food! You get a dinner roll. The place looks like an abandoned Big Boy and it would seem like they inherited the cooks too.

* Dragon Palace - I'm not even sure what the hell is going on with this place, but it's really terrible. The menu is full of things that no one wants - seafood makes up easily 70% of the menu - and everything you get looks like it was deep-fried by a meth addict in less than 30 seconds. No one is ever really happy they got food from Dragon Palace.

In order to get good Chinese food, you have to go to Canton to eat at Sze-Chuan, which is good.

Uncle Mxy
07-02-2009, 12:32 AM
Kowloon?! <blows chunks> As someone who was stuck eating there a couple times long ago, I have no idea of how that shithole stays in business.

Hong Kong Chop Suey is by Kowloon and can at least do almond chicken. It's not great Chinese by any means, but not nearly as bad as Kowloon.

If you want good Chinese in that general neck of the woods, take Southfield Fwy to Allen Park and the Hunan Hunan.

It had nearly the worst pad thai I've ever had -- flavorless and limp, yet leaving a bad taste in my mouth just the same. Dry rub of salt, pepper chili powder and garlic is great on steak. You don't even taste the chili powder when you grill it.

But I still think I'd take chicken of steak.

Nomally the wife makes the dough, but if I have to do it, I reach into our freezer and pull out one of those frozen bread doughs you can buy at the grocery store. It's not like a pizza crust dough, but there's never any left over...meaning it still tastes damn good.
