Hopefully after the dead period RR can call Sam and explain that the other RB's he signed are going be be slot receivers and not RB competition.

Updates from ESPN's blog:

BC, 8:30 a.m.: Running back Mark Ingram (Flint, Mich./Southwestern Academy) chose Alabama over a host of Big Ten schools Tuesday. Ingram is a physical back who has good acceleration and the ability to break tackles in the open field. Nick Saban continues to haul in key talent in his second season for the Crimson Tide. Meanwhile, Tide fans are anxious to see if No. 1 ranked wideout Julio Jones (Foley, Ala.,) is Alabama bound.

12:06 p.m.: Terrelle Pryor on ESPNU, "I will not make my commitment. ... I haven't that much time to concentrate on the recruiting process and need more time."

Pryor also said Oregon is back in the mix; he is choosing between Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and Oregon. He has until April 1st to make his decision.

3:42 p.m.: Michigan's class has been posted, and there are some interesting notes. As of 3 p.m. ET, YouTube hero Sam McGuffie (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=46662) (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair) is nowhere to be found. However, the Wolverines have officially added former Florida commit Ricky Barnum (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=47837) (Lakeland, Fla./Lake Gibson), former Penn State commit Michael Shaw (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=51715) (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) and former Purdue commit Roy Roundtree (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=49721) (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison).

5:43 p.m.: The Sam McGuffie (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=46662) situation is getting stranger.
"I talked to him," Cy-Fair offensive lineman Chris Lathrop (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=50592), who signed with Texas A&M this morning, told the Houston Chronicle. "It's like a wedding almost. He got cold feet and didn't come to school. He told me that doesn't know where he wants to go."
McGuffie is reportedly now choosing between Texas A&M, Cal and Michigan.

So apparently the only player that has committed to UM but not signed is George Morales, the long-snapper who committed right before Lloyd resigned. I'm not necessarily concerned about this, since he was the lowest ranked player to commit, but it is good to have a solid long-snapper.
Any idea if his offer is on hold while RR waits to see if he'll need the scholarship elsewhere?

Whew, now that we got McGuff, RR can focus all of his attention on getting one more recruit to sign on the dotted line..........2 star long-snapper George Morales.

All in all, solid class for U of M, top 10 in the nation, and props to RR for being able to keep most of Lloyd Carr's verbals on board (nobody's sad Wienke decommitted anyway)...

If TP doesn't come here, Threet is more than capable of handling the reigns for one season...

RR will be gunning hard to get Morgan Newton or Russell Shepherd, two of the top QB's in next year's class, both of whom are dual threat, to committ next season...

Michael Shaw was a true steal, he's going to be a stud IMO.

Interestingly enough I have seen a couple spots where they have mentioned Morales as a greyshirt. Usually that's something done for players who may struggle academically and they must take (I think) fewer than 12 credits. I could have swore I saw that Morales was an outstanding student. Maybe they're manipulating the rule a bit. Greyshirt him this year, redshirt him next year, and after four years of eligibility he'll have his masters degree. Maybe that was a decision he and the coaches made together as a mutual benefit. Who knows?

Unrecruited prospect admits to hoax

The story of the "recruitment" of a little-known Nevada offensive lineman took another bizarre twist Wednesday, with the player admitting everything was a hoax.

Kevin Hart, a 6-foot-5, 290-pounder from Fernley (Nev.) High, apologized in a statement issued Wednesday - National Signing Day - through the Lyon County School District.

"I wanted to play D-1 ball more than anything," the statement said. "When I realized that wasn't going to happen, I made up what I wanted to be reality. I am sorry for disappointing and embarrassing my family, coaches, Fernley High school, the involved universities and reporters covering the story."

Last Friday, Hart committed to California in a ceremony at the Fernley High gym. Most of the student body turned out, as did two TV stations and reporters from a local newspaper.

During his announcement ceremony, Hart said he and Cal coach Jeff Tedford "had talked a lot, and the fact that the head coach did most of the recruiting of me kind of gave me the real personal experience."

But there was one problem: No one from the school ever talked with Hart.

BearTerritory.net, a site on the Rivals.com network that covers Cal athletics, began to investigate the situation further. They learned that Hart had not been offered a scholarship by the Bears. After doing some more digging, they received scouting reports that the prospect was likely a walk-on at best.

Once other media outlets learned that Hart wasn't considered a prospect by schools he said were recruiting him, Fernley High coach Mark Hodges said the matter was "being investigated by law enforcement."

Saturday, sheriff deputies interviewed Hart, who told them someone by the name of "Kevin Riley" acted as a middle man in the recruiting process. A sheriff's report said Hart told a deputy that "Riley" told him there were scholarship offers available. Hart also told deputies he thought "Riley" was from Las Vegas.

Tuesday, Lyon County sheriff's detectives said they were investigating Hart's claim that he paid "Riley" to help him get a scholarship. "We do have a report of some sort of a recruiting deal with Kevin Hart," sheriff department Lt. Rob Hall said then. "There's a lot of facts that we're trying to run down to corroborate what he's telling us."

Then Wednesday morning, Hall said Hart had been "unable to provide any phone numbers, addresses" or other contact information for "Riley." Hart came clean later in the day.

After Hart's statement was released, Teri White, assistant superintendent of the Lyon County School District, told the Reno (Nev.) Gazette-Journal that the district is continuing an internal investigation into the situation.

That's what I'm hearing too Jethro. It sounds like he committed to Lloyd, and Lloyd said all commitements will be honored, but it doesn't seem like RichRod is feeling this cat too much.

Okay, I'm being dead serious about this. If this kid is in fact as sick as Moodini says, I hope he goes to Michigan and I will be a HUGE fan. I'm serious, if this white boy is ballin out Reggie Bush style, I will root for him every Saturday. When have you ever seen a white boy be a sick rb? Moodini, this kid goes Blue and I'll make you buy his jersey. Then I'll come over, put it on, and rock it proudly.

I'm bored so I've been going through the first few pages of the 2008 recruiting thread and EVERYTHING is pretty much hilarious (DSC even mentions Dominick Britt as a MSU recruit back then).

This quote is Doc Tre hyping up McGuffie right after we all just saw his video. Everyone gushed at this kid's video and thankfully in the end he signed with Big Blue and I, for one, can't wait to see Dr. Tre over at Moodini's crib in August rocking that #2 jersey!!!!!!

P.S. If anyone gets really bored go through here and pull out some more "cool" or "idiotic" things that we all said a freaking year ago. It really is a good capsule to go back and look at how hyped we were or to look at which players came from nowhere or which guys shit the bed.

Once McGuff committed, DocTre tried to weasel out of this one. You might even be able to find it on here. He said that since McGuffie was doing some "negative recruiting" about Michigan State when talking to Fred Smith, he doesn't like the cat anymore. LAME!

I'm holding him to it.

By the way, it looks like Minnesota went with the high risk/high reward class. They've got a class ranked much higher than what they've had recently, but they did it by taking guys many others had backed away from.
Marqueise Gray was a guy that a few other schools, including State, backed away from for whatever reason.
Keanon Cooper was a talented guy that schools including UM backed away from, not sure why.
I'm half expecting them to announce that Devoe Torrence is going to sign as well.
If these guys pan out and don't hurt the team in ways other schools feared, it could be a great building block to get Minnesota back among the competitive teams in the conference. On the other hand, if their issues show up it could set Minnesota back a few more years. It will be an interesting story to watch for a few years.

Just in case you missed it the 08 class just got stronger and faster with the signing of Tay Odoms 4 star wide reciever prospect from FLA

FillyCheezeSteak
02-10-2008, 05:48 PM
Odoms turned down an offer from the U to run track this year and then move to football during his sophomore season. Everyone down there assumed he was a lock, but apparently he wanted to play football immediately so he chose Michigan over West Virginia. Rumor has it that he has some of the best hands to come out of state of Florida in some time. He is a definite slot guy that isn't huge, but is lightning quick and the slot position at Michigan is starting to shape up in a big way.

Who is ready to see a few jailbreak screens at Michigan?

Is there not a Michigan thread sponsored by Tahoe and Jethro for this? What the fuck, are you turds jealous and petty that this has to go in some generic football recruiting thread that could be about Bakcwater State U instead of Michigan?

And even DSC with his MSU thread (also sponsored by Tahoe).

This is why this message board is falling apart. It isn;t just that Moodini is back that's ruining things, it's the sheer laziness and iresponsibility of the posters.

Twins, you are suspended for not puting the Odoms committment in the Jethro UM thread.
And you are on Double Non Secret Suspension for your bullshit reporting of the Terrelle Pryor Disaster.

Since my confidence the Michigan landing a stud commit like McGuffie is hovering around 2%, I've decided that wherever McGuffie goes....that's my squad.
