View Full Version : Carr retires, Miles/Schiano balk, UM's coaching search continues... Timone 12-12-2007, 12:51 PM They should go after Mark Dantonio. Glenn 12-12-2007, 12:56 PM What color would the state of Michigan be, then? Timone 12-12-2007, 12:58 PM My dream: a Tom Izzo led Michigan Wolverine team vs. a Mark Dantonio Michigan State team. Even if State lost, a Sparty would still win. Zip Goshboots 12-12-2007, 01:34 PM Grobe would be a good hire. For Indiana. Wilfredo Ledezma 12-12-2007, 01:39 PM I don't want Grobe. I'd rather have an NFL guy, such as Marvin Lewis... I'd also be pleased with Gary Pinkel from Mizzou or Chris Petersen from Boise St Wilfredo Ledezma 12-12-2007, 01:39 PM Brady Hoke > Jim Grobe Wilfredo Ledezma 12-12-2007, 01:40 PM Brady Hoke > Mark Dantonio...ok I'm done Zip Goshboots 12-12-2007, 01:47 PM Marvin Lewis? Doesn't UM have enough players dotting the police blotters already? How the fuck would Marvin Lewis go in and recruit? "Hey, as long as you don;t get caught shooting motherfuckers up this hizzle, you won't get no shizzle from me!" http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/2007/12/12/a-bar-scene/ Glenn 12-12-2007, 01:47 PM What do you guys think the possible REALISTIC best/worst outcomes of this may be, as it stands today. For me, I think Miles at best and Hoke/DeBord at worst. I'd be okay with English at this point if he is as good of a recruiter as people say. Glenn 12-12-2007, 01:48 PM I agree on Lewis, Zip. My first thought was that there is no way that UM looks past all of the legal troubles Lewis' players have had. Wilfredo Ledezma 12-12-2007, 01:49 PM kids (recruits) will listen to guys who have a NFL pedigree, Al Groh lands a top 25 recruiting class every year at VIRGINIA, Callahan landed big-time classes each year at NEBRASKA!! flash a recruit your super bowl ring, tell them you know what it takes to be an NFL player, and they will flock to your school Wilfredo Ledezma 12-12-2007, 01:50 PM the legal problems w/ the Bengals has nothing to do with Marvin, he has no control over his players outside of work, at least in college he can penalize them/kick them off the team, whereas in the NFL, he has no control over personnel I'm just saying, he's probably more of a "sexy pick" than an actual candidate Glenn 12-12-2007, 01:50 PM flash a recruit your super bowl ring, tell them you know what it takes to be an NFL player, and they will flock to your school Charlie Weis will tell anyone who listens about his Super Bowl rings, let's see how that plays out. Wilfredo Ledezma 12-12-2007, 01:53 PM Charlie Weis will tell anyone who listens about his Super Bowl rings, let's see how that plays out. well each university is different... Michigan will never have a year like ND just had...not anytime soon at least WTFchris 12-12-2007, 01:53 PM What do you guys think the possible REALISTIC best/worst outcomes of this may be, as it stands today. For me, I think Miles at best and Hoke/DeBord at worst. I'd be okay with English at this point if he is as good of a recruiter as people say. I think I'd rather have Hoke than English. English would simply run the same stuff Llyod has here. Unless he brought in some crazy OC that runs the spread, how would it be any different than last year? Wilfredo Ledezma 12-12-2007, 01:54 PM your right, the best case is Les Miles worst case is Mike DeBord, I'd rather have Brady Hoke than DeBord Wizzle 12-12-2007, 03:07 PM worth passing along if you haven't seen it yet TRANSCRIPT OF MILES CONVERSATION WITH MICHIGAN Les Miles: Uh... hello? Mary Sue Coleman: Hi, Les. It's Mary Sue Coleman. Let me patch in Bill Martin. Bill Martin: (faintly) Hello? Hello? MSC: Bill. BM: (faintly) Hello? MSC: Turn the phone around, Bill. BM: What? MSC: YOU'RE SPEAKING INTO THE WRONG END OF THE PHONE. BM: (louder) Oh. Miles: So.... MSC: Les, as you know, the University of Michigan is looking for a head coach. We would like any prospective candidates to have a strong understanding of the program's history, an established track record of success-- BM: -- and sailing experience -- MSC: -- as a college football head coach, and -- BM: -- any other sort of boating-type experience. Motor. Catamaran. You know. Water-type things. MSC: and a strong rapport with his charges. Anyway, Les, you've just won the SEC, have a 36-6 record in three years at LSU, and are well loved by your program. You also lettered twice under Bo and love this program more than any other. So... BM: ... do you know anyone that fits our criteria? Miles: Uh... me? BM: I didn't see any jib or mizzenmast experience on your resume. Miles: Right. That's because I'm a football coach. I coach football. BM: In fact, your resume made no reference to sailing whatsoever. So you're out, asshole. MSC: I think what Bill is trying to say is that we would like to offer you-- BM: --the opportunity to tell us who might be our perfect candidate. Reminder: Michigan ties, success, sailing. Miles: No, sorry. I don't know anyone who fits that criteria. BM: Well screw you, buddy! Click. MSC: Bill... next time let me do the talking. BM: Lloyd says Brady Hoke dresses up like Long John Silver on most Tuesdays. Let's hire him. Zekyl 12-12-2007, 03:12 PM Hahahahaha. Bill Martin is a joke. Glenn 12-12-2007, 03:43 PM New candidate emerging (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071212/NEWS05/71212044/1008/NEWS06) Zekyl 12-12-2007, 04:00 PM That would be an interesting speach to go see. Do you think he'd be a good recruiter, Glenn? Zip Goshboots 12-12-2007, 04:03 PM The trouble with Pro coaches is who they surround themselves with. They are enamored with stars, and just want to load the roster up with afleets. They don;t understand the system of recruiting for not just starters, but depth, redshirting, four year rotation of roster (turnover), etc. Carroll has been the exception, the jusry is out on Groh, though he does seem to be coming around. The norm is Callahan, guys who suffer alot of attrition, trouble, and just really never get a grasp on the whole college experience. Right now, if nobody emerges, I like English. I waas make or break for Miles. That would have been perfect (which is why Carr and UM fucked it up). But ANYBODY who comes in: Can they hire their own staff? I can only see two scenarios: 1) Somehow, someway, Miles gets the call after the BCS game. When Momma calls, as Bear Bryant said, "you listen". The media, and UM h8ters will moralize their whiney dicks off, but in the end, I'll kick back, have a glass of Arrogante Cognac ('97), a cigar, and relish in the fact that I willed it to happen. 2) English as a "interim". Ron: You win the national championship in '08, you get an extension. Anything else, and you just have a star on your resume. Third scenario: Debord is named coach, and several days later dissapears without a trace. Zekyl 12-12-2007, 04:07 PM Disappears huh? Any idea where he disappears to? Zips basement, perchance Zip Goshboots 12-12-2007, 04:11 PM Disappears huh? Any idea where he disappears to? Zips basement, perchance I have no idea what you are talking about. Why do you want to implicate me in someone's dastardly plans? But, just between you and me: I've been to jail. It isn;t so bad. Wilfredo Ledezma 12-12-2007, 05:10 PM Disappears huh? Any idea where he disappears to? Zips basement, perchance Zekyl, who is on your avatar?? Is that Brendan Haywood? Just wondering. Timone 12-12-2007, 05:30 PM But, just between you and me: I've been to jail. It isn;t so bad. Me too. May I ask what you were in for? As for the possibility of the Dalai Lama being the next Michigan coach: No. Too nice. ...not that I care really, I am an Ohio State fan. Wilfredo Ledezma 12-12-2007, 05:33 PM Me too. Is it what it's cracked up to be (a la Shawshank Redemption)? Timone 12-12-2007, 05:39 PM Well, let's just say that it's nothing like it was in American History X. Everyone gets along just great. Don't let it fool you. I dropped the soap once and someone picked it up for me. Timone 12-12-2007, 07:09 PM ANYWAY, I'll go to bed tonight hoping Belichik (sp) pulls a Petrino and goes to Michigan. Man, that'd be amazing. Too bad Belichik probably shits blue and yellow turds. Timone 12-12-2007, 07:31 PM Any truth to the rumors that Bobby Petrino could leave Arkansas and coach Michigan? I'm sorry, I have nothing to add to any serious sports topic except jokes. At least I'm staying on topic though. bukdow 12-12-2007, 08:20 PM Any truth to the rumors that Bobby Petrino could leave Arkansas and coach Michigan? I'm sorry, I have nothing to add to any serious sports topic except jokes. At least I'm staying on topic though. If anyone would it is Petrino. That guy makes Saban look like a faithful old Golden Retriever. bukdow 12-14-2007, 05:49 PM I am hearing the Rodriguez deal is close. That would make two hicks UM stole from "Mountain momma". Timone 12-14-2007, 05:55 PM bukdow, disagreed. This would make UM hicks mad a man with the last name "Rodriguez" would be the coach. Artermis 12-14-2007, 05:57 PM Yeah RR is being reported out of some places as having taken the job. bukdow 12-14-2007, 07:01 PM Wonder what Mallet is thinking now. Zip Goshboots 12-14-2007, 07:21 PM Wonder what Mallet is thinking now. He's thinking "I wish bukdow's mother would stop biting my cock" Artermis 12-14-2007, 07:42 PM RR was the OC at Tulane when Shaun King (a dropback passer) led the nation in passing efficiency. Mallet is very comfortable out the shotgun. Also the fact of the matter is that the spread offense does not mean a running QB. There are many different forms of it. It just means spread the defense out. Sam M. has to be a happy person. DennyMcLain 12-14-2007, 10:44 PM Rodriguez meets with Michigan AD about replacing Carr... then realized UM meant "Carr" as in Lloyd Carr, not "car" as in his shitty 1996 Ford F150 Hick Hauler Timone 12-14-2007, 10:48 PM roffle Timone 12-14-2007, 10:51 PM This is what a Michigan fan drives: http://www.scatpack.com/features/movies/i-4.jpg DennyMcLain 12-14-2007, 10:56 PM That would be considered Luxury Class in WVa. . It COULD seal the deal if R-Rod can snag one of them babies. Timone 12-14-2007, 11:03 PM My son told me he wanted to be a Michigan Wolverine and I had to explain to him little boys weren't supposed to wear dresses. Timone 12-14-2007, 11:05 PM I had to kick my daughter out when she told me she was a Michigan State fan. She's 6. Wilfredo Ledezma 12-14-2007, 11:09 PM My son told me he wanted to be a Michigan Wolverine and I had to explain to him little boys weren't supposed to wear dresses. dresses? Timone 12-14-2007, 11:10 PM yes, you know...the whole "all Michigan fans are crossdressing fags" thing? Zip Goshboots 12-14-2007, 11:55 PM This is the TRUE Wolverine fan: http://www.fotosearch.com/comp/phd/phd427/dog-humping-a-womans-leg-~-92041.jpg bukdow 12-15-2007, 01:16 AM I am hearing that Mallett may be transferring to Arkansas. Timone 12-15-2007, 01:40 AM Not that I care or anything, but who would Michigan's QB be? Glenn 12-15-2007, 05:48 AM What a weird guy to come up: Rodriguez was a WVU player under Don Nehlen, a name that may not ring bells among Michigan fans of my age or younger. Nehlen, however, was a Schembechler assistant and retains ties to the program. So he's got a tenuous connection. Perfect. Hire him and meet me at WalMart. Wilfredo Ledezma 12-15-2007, 08:38 AM I am hearing that Mallett may be transferring to Arkansas. bukdow, how the f do you know that... Wilfredo Ledezma 12-15-2007, 08:40 AM Not that I care or anything, but who would Michigan's QB be? Probably Ryan Mallett, Rich Rodriguez runs the option spread at WV, whereas here he'll probably just run the normal spread (5 wide, drop back QB), which is what Ryan Mallett ran in high school... If not, Terrelle Pryor? Steven Threet? Or even this long shot...Antonio Bass! Jethro34 12-15-2007, 09:54 AM Keep in mind the first TD Mallett had was running. Then Lloyd yelled at him for holding the ball out and jawing. RR would try to take time off Mallett's 5.5 40 time and teach him a couple don't-run-like-a-falling-tree moves and say jaw all you want son. Mallett, in line to break Tebow's record. While I joke, at 6'28", he should get 15 TD's easy on QB sneaks. Meanwhile, in a spread offense he can manage 30 through the air next year, assuming WR's stop dropping his balls (waiting for someone to focus on the line the wrong way). Either that, or platoon him with Terrell Pryor a la Leak/Tebow. Zip Goshboots 12-15-2007, 10:26 AM It'll be Mallett. This kid is gonna make us Sparties mad for the next three years. I think he has the talent, it's just that his freshman year was hampered by Scott Loeffler, Lloyd Carr, and Fat Ass Debord. Honestly, have you guys ever seen Debord in person? He's going the way of The Mangino. tommyz 12-15-2007, 10:38 AM It'll be Mallett. Yeah, Loeffler sucks..He has never done anything as Michigan QB coach........... Jethro34 12-15-2007, 10:59 AM Ok, so RR had a press conference this morning. Any tidbits? Zekyl 12-15-2007, 12:19 PM (waiting for someone to focus on the line the wrong way). Well that just ruins it for everyong, thanks Jethro! :dismissed: bukdow 12-15-2007, 02:04 PM The other players on the football team do not like Mallett and his over-the-top brashness, nor do they accept him as their future leader. Mallett resents them for this and there is quite a schism being created. Also, Mallett has Brohm dreams in Arkansas with Petrino. Timone 12-15-2007, 02:07 PM Again, how do you know this? Tahoe 12-15-2007, 02:11 PM Again, how do you know this? Cuz he is Budkow. He is omnimpotent b-diddy 12-15-2007, 02:49 PM its well known that bukdow gets passed around the michigan lockerroom like a collection basket at church. bukdow 12-15-2007, 04:31 PM its well known that bukdow gets passed around the michigan lockerroom like a collection basket at church. Ah, the lamentations of a jealous fruit. Wilfredo Ledezma 12-15-2007, 08:04 PM Ah, the lamentations of a jealous fruit. Isn't Lamentations a book in the Bible?? Didn't know it was also a pronoun. Timone 12-15-2007, 08:11 PM He called you gay too. Ouch. Zip Goshboots 12-15-2007, 09:03 PM bukdow, thanks for that "inside info" on Mallett. I'm going to tell all my friends here in Nebraska about this. You are one hell of a good source for dirt on Michigan Football. Timone 12-15-2007, 09:09 PM You forgot to put "dumbass" at the end. Tahoe 12-15-2007, 10:19 PM bukdow, thanks for that "inside info" on Mallett. I'm going to tell all my friends here in California about this. You are one hell of a good source for dirt on Michigan Football DUMBASS! fiksed Moodini31 12-15-2007, 10:38 PM On Rodriguez- I just heard that credible WVU sources are saying is 90-10 that he stays at WVU. Which leads me to this- Kirk Ferentz was a smokescreen for Les Miles...But Les Miles was actually a smokescreen for another run at Kirk Ferentz....but there was no second run at Kirk Ferentz, that was just a smokescreen for a run at Greg Schiano....who was really just a smokescreen for a second run at Les Miles...which was not really a "run" at Les Miles but rather a smokescreen for asking for his help in the search...but it is silly to think we were actually asking for his help...that was really a smokescreen for offering him the job....but it turns out that was really just a smokescreen for a run at RichRod. But RichRod wasn't real because he was just a smokescreen for......Les Miles, who has been our target all along. But then might be a smokescreen for some other yet to be revealed "big names". What a mess....and I love the word smokescreen. Tahoe 12-15-2007, 10:47 PM LOL! Bill has cut down ALL the trees in Michigan for all that smoke. Wilfredo Ledezma 12-16-2007, 08:55 AM Tell me that if Bo were still alive, Bill Martin wouldn't be out of a job right now...a la Tom Osborne at Nebraska... Zekyl 12-16-2007, 01:41 PM I can tell you, but it wouldn't be true. Artermis 12-16-2007, 02:08 PM Richrod is coming to UM. It is official. Tyrelle Pryor has now added UM to his list of schools. Glenn 12-20-2007, 12:40 PM http://wtfdetroit.com/forums/admincpanel/../../pics/toiletpaper.jpg WTFDetroit’s Morning Constitutional With Zip Goshboots December 20, 2007 I feel the need to step back into the ring this fine holiday season to soothe some of the angst for my fellow Wolverine fans. Like many of you, I put myself through hell during Michigan’s search for a new head football coach. I read all the blogs, forums, newspaper articles, and listened intently for the next Kirk Herbstreit scoop. I went through a bottle of rum every day, maybe a few drugs, some cheap whores (I think some of them were women. One may have been, well, not quite human. This IS farm country). I posted feverishly all of my ideas to every forum I visited. I may have solved the problem of cold fusion while posting on some “Lifetime Network” forum regarding what to do if your husband has left you to join the Cirque De Soleil. In short, I drove myself batty, along with the legions of Michigan fans who figured that this coaching search would take about as much time as it would for Bill Martin to call up Les Miles and say, “Howdy Les! Lloyd’s office is now yours. His shit’s in boxes down in storage, the place has been fumigated, and we’ll see ya tomorrow!” SCCCCRAAAAEEEEEECCCCH. Read this complete Morning Constitutional here.
