Read this article on Rivals today. This is a league that many D-1 players compete in, in the summer. If you have access, click on the "Chris Allen Highlights" link on the bottom. Check out the move/Dunk at the 1:34 mark, and then check out the sick 5 straight 3 balls at the 2:34 mark. Worth seeing if you are a Spartan or not. About as silky smooth as they come.

Rivals:

LANSING – In Atlanta, they call it the "Chris Allen Show." In mid-Michigan what you call it depends on if you are playing with the 6-foot-5 200-pound Michigan State freshman or if you the unfortunate soul with the responsibility of guarding Allen.

For a group a group of Central Michigan University stars, led by Mid American Conference scoring leader Giordan Watson, the "Chris Allen Show" was a nightmare on Saturday, as the Spartan freshman poured in 37 points on 13 of 26 shooting to lead Team Green past Team Royal Blue in the quarterfinal round of the CCSPL.

Fellow Michigan State freshman Kalin Lucas is getting used to the fireworks that Allen brings in most games.

"Chris isn't a streaky player," Lucas said. "He is always real good. But when he gets hot like he was today, you just have to give him the ball."

It was Allen's first CCSPL game in three weeks. The Spartan freshman had been bothered by a knee sprain and took some time off from summer league play. Allen, however, showed no signs of a sore knee in the afternoon's most dominating performance.

"It was getting pretty intense out there," said Allen. "We were down by 15 points so I had to come up big. Fortunately, a lot of guys stepped up. Durrell Summers played great and ID had a big game. We needed ID. I am glad he got here for the second half."

But Allen wasn't the only player that was on fire against Team Royal Blue. Durrell Summers also brought his "A" game to CCSPL quarterfinals. Summers arrived late for the game and played in just the final 16 minutes.

But in his abbreviated stay, Summers scored 16 points on 6 of 8 shooting and pulled down 8 rebounds. Lucas also scored 16 points. He led Team Green with 7 assists.

Idong Ibok scored 10 points and added 13 rebounds and 6 blocked shots. Ibok arrived in time to play in the second half.

Saw it!! Boffo!! The fucking guy has huge game. He looks to be a tad cocky at times. No check that. He looks like he thinks he shits ice cream and he needs to be humbled a smidge. I think if DaMaster agrees with me he'll bring him down a peg or two. Just the man for the job. We better enjoy CA. He ain't gonna' be around more than 3 years.

I agree, he does have the swagger, but you need that in bball. As long as it isn't too much. I gotta admit though, if I was dropping 37 in a semi-pro league, I might be a little cocky too. This kid looks unbelievable and totally ready to provide quality minutes-let's hope he can play D.

I love the fact that he's from Georgia, but has always been a Spartan fan and dreamed of playing for the green and white. Should be fun watching him this year.

I think "cockiness and "arrogance" are overplayed with regard to athletes. You NEED arrogance, man, to be that good. You have to believe you are the best. I like guys who yack, if of course they back it up.

Wasn`t the team he scored 37 against primarily made up of CMU players?

If CMU players are semi-pro, I think they might have to forfeit a lot of games, lol

Yeah, but the league is semi-pro I believe. Some CMU players just happen to be on that squad. Best player in the MAC was on it so solid competition, but not the comp. they see in other teams though.

I'm not questioning legitimacy here, just curious how a semi-pro league allows scholarship amatuers to compete. This sounds very conflict-of-interest to me.

"Semi-pro" leagues or even summer "pro leagues" are just given that name. They aren't paying leagues, just for fun summer leagues. They are all over major basketball hotbeds throughout the entire country and have been for 40 years. Detroit for example, my boy Herb played in the pro league there and it was a mix of great college players, NBA players that came home for the summer, ex-NBA players, etc.. They are just leagues for guys to play in, they aren't money paying leagues. Places like St. Clair Shores, St. C's in the D, the Rucker (going next summer), etc. have all become famous for their unbelievable summer hoops.

Speaking of which did you read all the great buzz on Herzog's last few games? In his last outing he was a blocked shot away from a "3-D." Oh yeah! Scored in the high teens with impressive FG%. I think he's gonna' be a real contributor this winter. He'll get better later in the year as well. Can't wait to see these guys together and how it all meshes. DaMaster has SOO many pieces.

Yeah and you know, I'm gonna call myself out on Herzog. I said that I wouldn't mind him because he was ranked high, a project, a 7 footer, and from Flint. HOWEVER, I definately didn't speak highly of him during his senior year. I was off.

Izzo said last year though that Herzog was the best big man on the team. That was during his redshirt freshman season! Trust me, when Izzo rants and raves about a big man, everybody better take notice because he typically rips into his big men and tries to get them tougher and better. Only big men I've heard Izzo rant about were Antonio Smith, Andre H., and Randolph. Select company. MSU's season will hang on what the big men do. If they can play tough, rebound better, lock down defensively, this team will be special. Adding Herzog only helps. I freaking love it. Can't wait for everybody to check Herzog's arms this year. Longest arms in the world, no problem claiming that and believing it.

Kalin Lucas is up there with Allen. English is not Izzo. Izzo doesn't praise players often. You get love from Izzo and you know you're doing something right. Wait on it, Herzog will be terrific, not necessarily immediately but in within the next 2 years. We'll see about this season.

That doesn't translate well to the comment you were reacting to.

First of all, for Izzo to say Herzog was the best means Izzo was comparing him to Naymick, Suton and Ibok. That doesn't necessarily have to be much of a compliment to Herzog, because those guys irritated State fans all year.

English, if he did say that, would be saying it as motivation for Trent, but nobody believes it to compare him to a pair of All-Americans. Personally, I expect Warren to be the #1 CB by the Illinois game.

By the way, I apologize for talking football in a Spartan basketball theme thread. It won't happen the remainder of this thread.

I don't want to take away from Chris Allen. Sounds like a stud and I'm jealous, even if I do think he looks like a girl.

And considering that the rest of MSU's 2007 class is damn fucking good...

That's saying something.

There's a reason I've been opining all summer for Izzo to use a Neitzel/Allen backcourt to start games and then roll out Walton/Summers to lay the smack even further down followed up by Lucas/Dahlman to pick up the scraps and then cram back down any of the surviving competitor's throats. :)

Izzo will start Walton and Neitzel. He'll probably come with Allen to spell Walton and have Neitzel run the pg a little. Lucas coming in for Neitzel and so on. Raymar at the 3 with Summers and Dahlman spelling him. Such an amazing problem to have too many guys.

What about Summers as one of the wings opposite Morgan?

I can't really say a whole lot because I haven't seen the cat play, all I've seen are pictures, but I'm going to hold you to that statement.

Go ahead. I'm right way more than I'm wrong when it comes to Spartan players. I don't know all, but I come informed on my Spartans. Herzog will be the perfect center to fit in with the great guard/forward play coming this year and on.

But he doesn't have a ton of muscle and he's inexperienced. NO WAY he can be successful in the Big Ten.

Either that, or your takes are inconsistent. Do you just turn your head a different way and that makes it ok?

Let me rip up that post real quick... Never said you have to have muscle or experience to be good. A >>>>TEAM<<<<<< must have some muscle and some experience to be good. I said UM would be bad this year in bball because they don't have muscle and they don't have experienced pg play.

In addition, there is a big difference between a 7 footer and those below. On top of that, there is a big difference between highly touted MSU recruits that are inexperienced and UM recruits that are inexperienced if you want to try to take a TEAM discussion quote and swing it over into an individual player thread. Nice try.
