MoTown

Don't worry - the main character in Lost is named Jack. So that's a good start.

BTW, you will probably like Lost more than 24. Just don't get deterred by season 2 - it's a little slow. But everything picks up after that.

This was he first time I think I've ever watched the Oscars, what a stupid show.

The best part was when Will Smith botched his line and threw out a "Boom Goes The Dynamite!" I swear that wasn't scripted, which prompts the thought that Will Smith must sit around on his computer watching Youtube videos. Makes me feel just a little better about myself.

It looked like the choices were:

a) masturbate to sandpaper (aka Pistons vs. Cavs)
-or-
b) overdose on laxatives (aka duh Oscar awards)

So I chose "c" -- none of the above (aka driving home). There was Fox News at one of the rest area TVs I stopped at, but since I was going there to take a piss, it may have been inspiring...

I have no idea what night the show is on, but I've started watching Fringe. You've got to have the imagination; if you do, pretty good show that is getting better (I'm through the first 4 episodes).

I tried Fringe and just didn't like it. The first couple episodes were okay, but I don't want to get into another show that has shit happen without giving answers.

I would watch the show if Charlie Conway would put his Ducks jersey back on.

I was expecting the unanswered questions seeing as J.J. Abrams (LOST) has a large hand in this show. Regardless, I'm more watching it because I really need something to do, not because I was dying to watch it or anything. It's enough to keep me interested at this point.

Tigers tonight, I'm mildly excited. Going to make a fat homemade pizza and have a few brews probably.

I have to say I'm mighty proud of the fact that I finally called up the cable TV company and said: Go fuck yourself. I've cut the chord. Sheeyit, there's never anything on, really, and gourd knows there's nothing on that I GOT to watch.
This is not some "hoity-toity-I'm-smarter-than-all-of-you-rant" (and the disclaimer means that it really is). I got out of the TV habit when I started back to school three years ago and literally do not sit down to watch anything except college football. For the NCAA tourney, I just go to CBS Scoreboard and watch it on my laptop!
The only thing I miss is BookTV on C-Span, and the naps I used to get whenever I did sit down to watch something and would instantly fall asleep.

Now, don't get me wrong here: I still do absolutely nothing productive with all that extra time not spent in front of the TV--hey, I'm not insane, and I'm not going overboard. My lawn still looks like shit (I'm not a goddamm farmer, you know), I still only wash the car twice per year, and I still, thankfully, spend no more than about two minutes a month with my kids, and only to tell them they're complete fuckups who are ruining my life (but they're all girls and I have to say I'm proud of them for something: that the two oldest ones are 24 and 19 and still haven't made me a grandpa).

One of the hardest habits to break is that "Well, there's nothing to do so let's pretend we're a family and go zone out on TV for the next three hours and ignore each other" Sometimes I think the only time a family really communicates these days is when they're all working together to find the remote that someone usually took into the bathroom when they finally found the strength to tear themselves away from the TV to go take a shit.

And what do families (or co-dependent couples) do when they turn off the TV? Go to the movies! YOWZA! Especially if you live in a shit hole like Michigan or Nebraska where it's colder than in between a married woman's thighs 8 months per year, and raining the other four months.

I especially love the thing about every fucker in the house having a TV in their bedroom. YOWZA! A good excuse to go to bed early so you can, y'know, wink wink--watch Jay Leno without the kids bothering you.

It's everywhere--TV in the bathroom (especially new construction), TV in the kitchen, TV at the gas pump, TV's are even going at the meat market bars (actually that's a good thing because for 99% of the men in the world who lack the balls to talk to hot chicks, they can watch TV instead of thinking about talking to the hot chick for three hours before they go home and whack off all night.

Television: Fuck it. And don't give me "targeted" TV watching, or "education" TV watching--it's a borefest and it's the #2 thing we do with ourselves because we don't know what to do otherwise (getting married is #1). And oh yeah, the fucks who just say shit like, "Well, I really watch a lot of that History Channel"--oh really? You never can get enough information on the Nazis, I guess. Go for it, and BULLSHIT--you're watching American Idol or Life with Kato Kaelin. Bad singers and gay wards who helped their boss lop off a couple people's heads and is now famous, and you are enraptured by it.

Now, all of this doesn't apply to Moxie--He's probably got an office with 42 TV's, he can watch all of them simultaneously, they're all tuned to news, PBS, and other educational bullshit, at least 15 of them are probably watching channels from various countries around the world (and he can understand what they're saying just by looking at their eyes and hand gestures), and Moxie gets something out of it. But he's an anomaly, a genius, and, well, in fact, he's probably the only guy in the world who does that.

<laughs> Let's just say that at the rate you're going, you'll never pick me out of a lineup.

I rarely work in an office, home or otherwise. I have 2 TVs powered up, not 42. I have limited attention span for anything that's not in English (or simple French if the accent isn't tres horrible). The one thing you have right is that I watch a little more PBS than most. I'll brake for Nova, Off The Record, and Austin City Limits. I'll do Jim Lehrer if the Internet isn't doing it for me that day. Netflix and library DVDs dominate the TV, not broadcasts. I could download all my media and be a 21st Century kiddie, but I'm rarely in a rush and don't mind paying a little for a low hassle factor.

After catching up with Fringe, I will say that I am slightly enjoying it and am ready to give it about a 6.9/10 so far. Not great, but watchable and enjoyable, especially if you take it for what it is and not expect too much.

The dude on today's (rerun) episode of Steve Wilkos, "He Raped Me And My Baby", is just all kinds of awesome. The accused dude is from Toledo, and was talking enthusiastically about how he was watching the Pistons win the championship when the rape supposedly happened.

It's not exactly "tonight", but given I've been up most of the night which is how I ended up watching it at 7am, it feels like night.
