Hey Gutz-

Trust me, no offense taken. I completely respect your opinion. Sometimes I do tend to hyperbolize in order to drive a point home. And I hope people don't just blindly take what's written in a forum to be anything other than opinion. Still, I hold true to my opinion that mcdyess is an aging, inconsistent player (not a cancer) that isn't neary as good as people make him out to be.

With that being said, I believe my original premise was that there's a double standard when discussing Mcdyess and Nazr. People are hypocritical and tend to be more forgiving and patient with mcdyess than Nazr for whatever reason, maybe because one has a prettier jump shot than the other.

People get on Nazr's case for complaining about playing time (which he has since ceased; I personally don't mind when someone states that he wants to play and thing mcdyess would do just the same if roles were reversed), his knack for picking up fouls (both nazr and mcdyess foul with alarming regularity) and lack of production (compare the per 48 averages, which I did earlier in this thread, and they favor nazr especially in three very important statistical categories, ppg, rbg and fg%. Nazr is also much more efficient on the floor because it doesn't take nearly as many shots for him to get the same point production).

They both turn the ball over at similar rates (and people ONLY talk about Nazr's propensity towards turning the ball over) but neither at an especially bad rate.

And I do believe that mcdyess will continue to be an inconsistent player where he could follow up one great effort (loved the energy last night against the pacers) with a 2 point, 5 foul performance. He's currently on a hot streak and will probably go on another cold one before the season concludes. That's just what he does. It's just that this year, which may have to do with age, etc., the cold streaks have lasted longer than the hot ones.

And I do think he's on the downward slope in terms of his playing career which is a natural regression pattern for a player of his age and injuries.

My original opinion on mcdyess, prior to the webber trade, was that he needed to be traded in order to free up PT for maxiell as the pistons weren't going anywhere and needed to begin developing some of their kids (I believe there's an old thread about this). Plus I like what maxiell does for the club in comparison to mcdyess (energy guy, help-defender, etc.) and felt he should be given an opportunity to help the team.

Now that Webber has arrived, my thoughts on trading mcdyess have changed but still feel our beloved coach needs to find ways to interject maxiell and nazr into the game because they do things a little differently (and sometimes better) than antonio mcdyess.

I never made mcdyess out to being a cancer and actually like him very much in the role he plays for the team, but I also think he's not NEARLY as good as many people believe he is.

I think people also like Dyess more for things like last night. He showed a LOT of passion going after rebounds and Nazr doesn't really do that. He's a solid center, but he doesn't play with the same fire as Dyess does.
