The Portugal victory was a fucking joke. Four red cards, 16 yellow cards, finishing 8 on 8. Several hard (and clearly obvious) fouls not called, and one faggot named Figo pulling his best Manu Ginobli and forcing the final red card on what appeared to be a touch foul.

It's too bad, because the second half was IMO the best half of soccer in the entire tournament so far. The Dutch had plenty of chances, and nearly converted on a couple of them. Too bad the refs had to mark the game.

And the other game...? Fuck the Brits and that metro Beckham. He's good for one thing and one thing only, and he proved that today. They've got to play Portugal in the next round, a Portugal team missing two carded players plus perhaps Ronaldo with a leg injury.

Italy wins it on Penalty kicks. I'll admit, I thought this matchup was going to be 'meh' but it was actually a great game. Congrats to the Italians.

2 minutes into the game, Henry takes a dive and either some injury that could not be seen by the human eye occured or he was trying to get the refs to harshly watch the Italians right from the start.

It works, French player takes a total dive in the penalty box and gets rewarded with a penalty kick, which Zidane scores.

Italy then scores 16 minutes later off a coner kick and completely dominates the first half, nearly scoring multiple times.

Second half, Italy's collapse was nearly the most absurd and pathetic things I have ever witnessed. At times I found myslef wondering who brought in the suitcase full of cash intot the locker room at half time. The French attack makes Italy's infamous defense look like a girl's highschool soccer team. Canavaro saves their asses multiple times, despite the rest of his team making lazy and short passes right near their own 16 yard mark.

We go into overtime.

Then Zidane flips the fuck out for no apparent reason other than some back and forth trash talking, and in his final game EVER, the 3 time FIFA Player of the Year decides to go M. Bison on Materazzi and gives him a vicious headbut to his chest. Red card. Stand clear everyone, Zidane has decided to destroy his legacy like a Viatnamese village hit by a napalm strike.

Penalty kicks ensue, and Italy wins.

just my 2 cents I kind of understand your point, but free throws aren't really comparable to penalty kicks. A goalie can still stop a kick (not very often, but enough to make a difference), free throws just come down to the shooter.
