The one email that might be inappropriate is on March 12 2012, but it's unclear if it's part of a Media Matters-initiated conversation where it might make a bit more sense. Five days ago, on November 4th 2014, more folks cast their vote for a D (48.9%) than an R (47.7%) for the house of reps. But we will have a strongly R (~56%) house of reps.
Same thing happened in 2012... Obama won re-election by 3.9%, more D (48.8%) than R votes (47.6%) in the house of reps. But we had a solid R (53.8%) house of reps.

These R victories have been quite real, but it's not like they're terribly reflective of the voting majority, let alone the silent one.
In the house of reps case, it's largely the product of gerrymandering.

Getting slightly more back to topic -- tieing these results to Obama approval rating is provably bullshit.
Obama had a 50+% approval rating in 2012, consistent with who voted for him.
Yet the D vs. R voting % were basically identical to 2014.
