I think this is a good signing. just above the MLE so it's not like we'll wildly overpaying for a FA just to beg him to come to Detroit- which is usually the case. this kid is a really good shooter something we DESPERATELY need. I think this is a good deal- he's young and very capable of filling a crucial role for us. that's what you need- and he fits in well IMO.

This is reminiscent of Charlie V signing to me. Raced out and spent MLE+ dollars for a specialist, without letting the playing field materialize. Paying a guy like this $6M+ is okay if you need that one piece to contend, but that's not us.

Just like 2009, I'd rather use the cap space to facilitate a trade, maybe pick up a lottery pick. Something similar to Boozer's situation plus a 1st. Not for the player, for the pick and to maintain flexibility.

Meeks is a guy that you use the mini MLE or that value on, IMO. Who cares if he helps us win 3-4 more games so we squeak into the #8 spot?

It just seems like we keep playing this game wrong.

also did you watch the youtube clip- he scored 54 points in 54 seconds- that's unheard of!!!!! ;o)

but seriously- it gives you a glimpse of the type of shooter and scorer he is. he's finding a place in the nba and pair him with Drummond and a decent PG- soon to come- and he will be even better. may not be a big name superstar but he will be an effective scorer and a winner. see what the spurs do and how they fit guys into their system and this is that type of move for us as we try to climb the ladder.

What is happening is exactly what I was talking about. Now the Cavs need to move Jarrett Jack (approx $6M/yr) to clear space for LeBron. They are going to end up having top attach more value to him to make this happen, likely one of the many first round picks that they have.

    Would you rather have ...

Jodie Meeks at 3 years, $6M per

    or

Jarrett Jack at 2 years, $6M per
    AND
    a 1st round pick

    ???

I don't see him as someone who commands the mini MLE. he's worth more than that. 26 years old- he's on the rise my friend. he's not a big name or even known to most fans but I've seen him play a lot and this kid is not just a specialist. he can play a big role. did you see how valuable shooters are? he is a flat out scorer and will be a good player.

furthermore, I agree with you about trades but you're not going to be able to use your cap space for a trade unless you're going to take on a longterm horrible contract. how would that help us? it's much easier said than done.

SVG is going about it the right way IMO- we have to target second tier guys for less but guys who are on the rise. meeks is overlooked and not an excitable signing for the fanbase but give SVG a chance- this is EXACTLY what he said he'd do.

no huge FA contracts like CK's deal was- 5 years and $30 million. all he could do was shoot and he was a horrible player otherwise. meeks is not that guy. he can play and is not just a specialist. plus his deal is cheaper and for only 3 years. not comparable when you look at the numbers or the players if you ask me.

I honestly couldn't see anyone having given him more than $4M. I like him as a piece but I'm pretty sure we were bidding against ourselves as soon as we passed 3/$10M.

I'm reppin' Jesus Christ and Conservative views....

Quick piece by VINNY which was a logo style of his. VINNY also did two letter throw up's by the name of FI 2.
