advice needed: company wants a salary history

looking around the job market (i often do this), a job im looking at wants a salary history with the application.

    anyone familiar with these?

i read an article about them and it implied that it spoke poorly of the company, saying "if you still want to apply...".

does this really suggest bad things about the company? also, how do you format it? is it similar to a resume?

I'm not familiar, per se, but ffrom what I've seen it looks like a separate page that you'll want to title "Confidential Salary History"

    Format it like:

    Dick Butterson
    2121 Shartbutt Ave.
    Uranus, WI 99999
    (xxx) 696-9696

    Salary History

    NoHomo Co.
    321 Mancrush Lane
    Detroit, MI 43434
    Phone: (xxx) 334-3434
    Position: Professional Assfucker
    Starting: $99,987
    Ending: $105,675
    Plus: Benefits, Semi-Annual Bonus

    Fat Joe D's
    110 Never-a-good-trade St.
    Detroit, MI 43434
    Phone: (xxx) 334-3434
    Position: Semi-Professional Assfucker
    Starting: $69,987
    Ending: $75,675
    Plus: Benefits

    ------------------------------

Of course, you're free to format it as you wish, but I get the feel that's the idea.

Also, in lieu of doing that, if you have the balls it appears you can forgo that and write a letter about your salary requirement instead of providing a history.

"Butterson" is a nice touch. It totally sounds like the last name of a guy from Wisconsin.

No offense, UxKa. Wait, you live in Wisconsin right?

prior to the hijacking, this post appears to be exactly what i was looking for, thanks a ton.

i may actually go the ballsy route. like i said, i like to keep an eye on the job market and fortunately i dont need to bend over right now.

that, or just turn in a sheet that says:

    b-diddy -- payed

    "110 Never-a-good-trade St."

calling this as my new location

also, since you appear to be up on this, does this request reflect poorly on the company? can i expect to be paying for my own paper clips and such if i work there?

    I don't really know.

"If you still want to apply" could mean a lot of things in different contexts. But if that's the tone if the entire article or whatever you read, then I'd be highly skeptical.
