    WCSX fires morning show

I've never heard of it, but I thought some might find it noteworthy.

The long-running “J.J. and Lynne” morning show on WCSX 94.7 FM has been cancelled because the station wants better ratings and more revenue from that time slot.

“I don't want to start throwing darts at them. We need better ratings and revenue out of mornings,” said John Gallagher, market manager for WCSX owner Greater Media Inc.

There will be a music-intensive morning show until a permanent morning replacement show is announced in a couple weeks, Gallagher said, adding that three options are under consideration. He declined to add specifics.

Jim Johnson started the show 16 years ago and Lynne Woodison was on for 11 years. They were told after this morning’s show it was their final show, Gallagher said.

“We are very grateful for the many contributions that J.J. & Lynne have made to WCSX. Their philanthropic efforts have set a new standard in the Motor City,” a statement read on wcsx.com. “We wish them the very best. Additional details will be announced in the near future.”

Deminski and Doyle to air on WCSX 94.7 FM in January

D&D will be back on Detroit’s morning airwaves starting Jan. 5.

The morning-drive radio talk show duo Jeff Deminski and Bill Doyle, who spent 8 years on the air at CBS Radio’s WXYT 97.1 FM until their contract wasn’t renewed last year, will replace “J.J. and Lynne” in the 6-10 a.m. slot on WCSX 94.7 FM, said John Gallagher, market manager for station owner Greater Media Inc.

Deminski and Doyle had a one-year, no-compete clause in their last contract, so they couldn’t go on the air in Detroit until 2009, Gallagher said.

“We just recently came to terms and couldn’t say anything until today,” he said. “We’re going to build a regular show around them. We couldn’t negotiate with other members or participants until the contract was finalized.”

He termed the contract a “multiyear deal” for the hosts, but declined to go into details.

Greater Media shed Jim Johnson and Lynne Woodison last week in hopes of getting better ratings and revenue from the morning drive slot, Gallagher said.

Deminski and Doyle will face their CBS Radio replacements, Jay Towers and Bill McAllister’s general talk program, “Motor City Mornings,” for the morning ratings and revenue, which are considered the most lucrative for radio.

Never much cared for D&D, but I think they're probably going to destroy MCM. McAllister's silly voices in a plastic megaphone can only go so far.
