1995 Oscar for Best Picture - Redux

I heard Josh Elliot talking about this topic/debate yesterday on the radio, and I thought it might make for an interesting discussion.

    There were 5 nominees:
    Forrest Gump
    Four Weddings and a Funeral
    Pulp Fiction
    Quiz Show
    The Shawshank Redemption

For those that don't remember, don't care or don't want to know yet, I won't tell you which film won (you can look it up if you want to, somebody will probably spoil it later in the thread) but if you had to choose one today, which would you pick and why?

Shawshank. I'm as much a Liberal Democrat as has ever existed, but the thought of Tim Robbins being raped for twenty years is too much to ignore when considering this award.
Now, if I actually go with the best movie, the one I liked the most: Pulp Fucking Fiction, baby, hands down.
The best dialogue in a movie I have ever seen. Every line is a classic.
My favorite: "I'm a motherfucking mushroom cloud laying motherfucker motherfucker".

I voted for it. My favorite is Pulp Fiction (only one of those I own). However, I think Forrest Gump should have won it.

Shashank was good but that fact that it's on TV a billion times makes me not want to vote for it. Sue me.
Phil Wenneck: The man purse. You actually gonna wear that or are you just fuckin' with me?
Alan Garner: It's where I keep all my things. Get a lot of compliments on this. Plus it's not a purse, it's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.

    I'm a Shawshank guy, too.

I though FG was hokie, I have never understood the appeal of Pulp Fiction (actually I don't like most Tarantino flicks other than Reservoir Dogs), 4 Weddings is for chicks and is British (translation: I've never seen it, but it can't be worthy) and Quiz Show moved too slowly for me.

Shawshank is nearly a perfect movie IMO. Everytime I stumble accross it on TBS/TNT (which is quite often) I get hooked.

    Gump was crap.
Shawshank is a movie that is watchable no matter how many times I've seen it, Glenn. It's a great movie.
Oddly, Pulp Fiction is the ONLY Tarrantino movie I like. It was his best, his inspired moment, and the rest have come up so far short of it I almost cry that he had only one good movie in him and seems to feel compelled to do nothing but go for shock value in trying to outdo Fiction.

Dusk till Dawn was moderately entertaining. I don't like any other Quintin movies either.
Phil Wenneck: The man purse. You actually gonna wear that or are you just fuckin' with me?
Alan Garner: It's where I keep all my things. Get a lot of compliments on this. Plus it's not a purse, it's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.

Who the hell is Josh Elliot? Is he another ESPN dope? Another Tony Kornheiser/Colin Cowherd wannabe?

He was sitting in for the afternoon host (Seibel?) yesterday.

He used to be a writer for SI, now he's with ESPN (TV & Radio).

Seems to fancy himself a bit like Bob Costas IMO.

In trying to find out some more info on Elliott, I came across this site: http://www.prphotodesk.com/cgi-bin/I...imageFolio.cgi

Some great John Saunders pics there that I might save for future reference.
