TRADE: McCants/Booth for Shelden Williams/Bobby Brown

Sources: Kings, Wolves agree on deal

    ESPN.com news services

The Timberwolves and Kings have agreed in principle to a deal that will send Shelden Williams and Bobby Brown to the Timberwolves, two sources told ESPN.com's Chad Ford.

In exchange, the Kings will receive Rashad McCants and Calvin Booth, the sources told Ford.

The deal would give the Kings two players with expiring contracts and allow them to get Brown's 2009 salary of $736,420 off the books for next year.

For the Wolves, the addition of Williams would help replace Al Jefferson, who's out for the season with a torn ACL.

The Kings are doing a lot of dealing but I'm not sure any of these make them any better. They still won't have cap space until 2010 and they have Nocionis crap deal after that.
Phil Wenneck: The man purse. You actually gonna wear that or are you just fuckin' with me?
Alan Garner: It's where I keep all my things. Get a lot of compliments on this. Plus it's not a purse, it's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.

It's not about getting better, it's about having to borrow as little money as possible from Stern.

I think the biggest part of the deals they've done is getting drew gooden. His contract is worth $7 mil which will come off after the season. But I agree with Chris in that most of their moves were more or less lateral.

So they saved 10 mil next year on the Chicago deal. The Minny deal does nothing because they were all essentially expirings (there are some team options).

Was 10 mil in savings next year worth Nocioni's salary?

I would think they could have sent Miller to a contender without taking back long term deals. There are a lot of teams looking for a solid big man.

Would the Cavs trade Wally for him? They could get 5.5 mil in cap space from the Spurs for him (along with filler that would expire the next year).

I think Sacramento took Nocioni because they saw that his contact decreased in value over the next three years and the final year is a team option i believe. I'm not sure that was the best option but i don't think it was the worst. They must've been getting less offers than they had hoped for Miller because the Kings didn't want to include Salmons in the deal either. I believe they wanted to ship him else where in a seperate deal.
