AP says an exchange of future draft picks. Sounds to me that means we'll just have the option to switch 2nd rounders one year in the future.

Agreed. I figured we'd get one of those top 55 protected 2nd rounders for one year, and never get it.

Btw, that probably means the Clippers will cut Samb.

AUBURN HILLS -- Detroit trading Alex Acker to the Los Angeles Clippers wasn't exactly the blockbuster deal many expected.
But this trade may turn out to play a pivotal role in Detroit's efforts to significantly upgrade the roster next season.

Not only does the deal clear enough money for this season that should help Detroit avoid paying a luxury tax, but it also clears about $1 million of cap space for next season.
Even before the Acker trade, the Pistons were well positioned to go out and sign a player to a max contract, and still likely avoid paying a luxury tax.
But Acker being traded gives them additional flexibility.
When you consider how dire the economy is right now, even NBA teams are looking to scale back spending. There's a very good chance that there will be some talented veterans who won't get nearly what they believe they're worth, and have no choice but to settle for the veteran's minimum which is close to $1 million - which is what the Pistons would have owed Acker.

The (very) minor trade Detroit has agreed to with the Los Angeles Clippers -- sending Alex Acker to L.A. for nothing more than a future swap of second-round picks -- appealed to the Pistons for obvious reasons. They were $731,868 over the NBA's $71.15 million luxury-tax threshold as of Sunday morning. Shedding Acker's 2008-09 salary of $711,517 almost gets them under the tax line.
