Thread: joe lewis moving

    joe lewis moving

my sister's office is moving to the offices above the state theatre, accross woodward from commerica park.

the person that showed her the office said that comerica would be on one side, and that within 2 years the joe would be on the other.

just a rumor, i guess, but i think its true. illitch owns most of that area, anyway. the joe is in a pretty stupid location, and that area could use a boost... it gets dark pretty quickly once you get off woodward.

teams always want new arenas, but this wings team could especially use it. they have a good team that people should be very excited about, but arent. if the wings want to recapture the magic, a new arena could do it.

i wonder if the joe would get torn down or if they would try to keep it. maybe UD basketball and WSU hockey could assume it.

It's pretty sweet how that's going in downtown Detroit. I'd be pretty stoked if this happen. I was trying to find out why I stopped watching hockey and then realized it was because all the fuckin' games on FSD are blacked out so I haven't really been able to follow it strongly for a long time.

i dont remember what at the block between grand river, cass, elizabeth, and columbia, but i think that would be a good spot. close to motor city and the other stadiums, would really make the entertainment district 3 dimensional.

i know detroit's mo in the past has been to not put all its eggs in one basket, but like i said, once you get off woodward it gets dark pretty fast, and the casinos dont really add anything to locals. basically they are a world unto themselves. people walk to the stadiums, so the joe would probably do a lot of good there (vs people walking through the cobo).

I never understood why an arena like Joe Louis was on the river anyway. If it had an atrium (like Ford Field) I could understand it.
Phil Wenneck: The man purse. You actually gonna wear that or are you just fuckin' with me?
Alan Garner: It's where I keep all my things. Get a lot of compliments on this. Plus it's not a purse, it's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.

It actually looks pretty ugly from the Canada side. My fraternity went up to Canada for a weekend and from our hotel pool we could see the Joe, it was pretty drab looking, I was disappointed.

My dad told me they were at one point thinking of turning Joe Louis into an aquarium should the Wings ever decide to build a new arena.

Now I've been to 2 aquariums in my lifetime (Baltimore & Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg, TN), and I think that would be the coolest waste of money ever!

    SWEET, AN AQUARIUM! Fuck that.

I'll tell you what they need to do with it. There aren't any nice drug houses in Detroit, so I think they should use Joe Louis Arena for that. Drugs.

Glenn, you remember that show RollerJam? Used to come on TNN (now Spike) a while ago, maybe like 8-9 years ago. That was fun to watch.

I stopped watching roller derby back around 1985 or so.

I remember the Los Angeles Thunderbirds or something like that.

How's about this, turn Joe Louis into the world's first pro wrestling dedicated arena?

    Pro wrestling every night.

    Or maybe MMA?
