It would not (which is your point). Boston is farther over the cap than us. So much so that their #5 pick may put them in luxery tax. That's what happens when you pay Ratliff and Wally 12 mil a piece.

Phil Wenneck: The man purse. You actually gonna wear that or are you just fuckin' with me?
Alan Garner: It's where I keep all my things. Get a lot of compliments on this. Plus it's not a purse, it's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.
Trades only have to be within 25% of each other, so all Boston would have to give back to us is another low-level contract for Sheed+Nazr, of which they have plenty (Tony Allen could be interesting). Sheed expires sooner than Pierce and Sheed+Nazr fills a need while their #5 matures.
Who else could we get in the deal to even it out? Someone with a shitty contract without many years left on it I'd assume.Originally Posted by Glenn
Yeah, I thought MXy was posting that as a complete deal, but it sounds like it was a partial.
Find a new slant.
Sheed-Rip-Nazr-15 for Pierce-Ratliff-5
or
Sheed-Rip-15 for Pierce-Scalabrine-5
or
Sheed-Rip-Nazr-15 for Pierce-Wally-5
or
Sheed-Rip-15 for Pierce-Telfair-Allan Ray-5
I kind of like the last one because Telfair and Allen Ray are both guards. Maybe one of them could become our guard of the future if we don't get Conley with #5. Maybe the 5 gets us someone like Brewer who would backup Pierce and Tay. Maybe it gets us Horford or Wright (or Jianlian, but that idea scares me) to be our new starting PF. Then we can still use our MLE on Hill or a C or we can fill the C spot through another trade.
Billups/Telfair/Allan Ray or Blaylock
Pierce/Delfino/#27
Tay/Hill?/Delfino/#27
#5/Dyess/Max/Amir
MLE or Trade/#5/Nazr
Obviously I'd have to put more thought into the trades for the C, but Nazr could even be used as our starter C until things got worked out, or we could play whoever we draft as a PF at C, since many teams play PF's as their C these days anyway.
The numbers were close enough ($700k if I understand it correctly) where a dealwas quite workable. I wasn't suggesting Kidd for Amir or something extreme like that.Originally Posted by Glenn
But they are already at 62 mil. If you add another 3-4 mil to the payroll they are in luxery tax level. And that's before you add in their high draft picks too. They'd never do that.Originally Posted by Uncle Mxy

They'll have to do something else to deal with their cap issue, expiring Ratliff. There's not many teams who could do a deal for both Pierce and Ratliff.
