    pc game tech help

im betting someone on here can help me.

i downloaded star wars knights of the old republic 2 for my pc off a bit torrent.

i used winrar and daeman tools to install.

im 99% certain i did this correctly.

the game start start menu works, but when i try to play it says im not using the proper play cd. i read on the torrent's chat board that i need to go to gameburnworld.com and install a patch they made. its actually a replacement .exe file.

heres where im getting tripped up:

(from the instructions that came with the file)"
Make a backup of your origional swkotor2.exe in the game install directory.
(if you plan to apply patches to update the game later)

Copy the swkotor2.exe from this archive and overwrite the origional."

now, im assuming this refers to the file i find in program files, and not somehow under the the file on the "cd" (can you alter those files?).

but when i overwrite said file, shit hits the fan. is the exe file bad, am i dont something wrong? anyone know if this is a good way of doing this, or of a better alternative?

i dont care how pathetic this seems. i dont care if i can go to bb and buy this game for 15 dollars. i want THIS file to work. im pretty much a computer novice, and i think managing this would raise me to intermediate, which would be nice.

I can only think two reasons why it wouldn't work:

    - The patch you downloaded was corrupted.

    - The original file (swkotor2.exe) is still running in the background.
