    Pistons stat zone

    Post and discuss interesting (or not interesting) Pistons stats here.

    This is sort of a tribute to zeebneeb the stat man returning to WTF.

    ----------------------------------

    Being curious about such things, I found a few interesting stats about the Pistons record, both against the spread and straight up.

    I thought this against the spread info might help some of the gamblers here, either with real money or with alpacas in the WTF Sportsbook. And even for the non-gamblers, it's sort of interesting to look at and try to make sense of.
    • As of today, the Pistons are 23-24 against the spread (ATS) this year.
    • They are 8-15 ATS at home.
    • They are 15-9 ATS on the road.
    • They are 3-5 in the division ATS, and 15-16 against the East.
    • 9-8 ATS vs. opponents over .500 (2-6 at home and 7-2 on the road).
    • 13-12 ATS vs. opponents under .500 (5-7 at home and 8-5 on the road).
    • 2-10 ATS in their last 12 home games. (This is my best tip, you can make some money on this one).
    • 11-4 ATS when scoring more than 100 points.

    Here are some straight up stats (not against the spread):
    • 5-0 when allowing under 80 points.
    • 13-1 when allowing 80-90 points.
    • 8-6 when allowing 90-100 points.
    • 2-9 when allowing 100-110 points.
    • 1-2 when allowing 111+ points.
    • 0-1 when scoring less than 80.
    • 4-4 when scoring 80-90
    • 13-10 when scoring 90-100
    • 10-2 when scoring 100-110
    • 2-1 when scoring 111+ points

    Thoughts?

    It was a double-overtime game. I think Rip had 51 points that game.

    Rip's 51 was the double OT against the Knicks, a game we lost.

    Couple of more interesting stats;

    Before the season started, I said that our offense would be worse with NAZR at the C spot, and I was right. (No one agreed of course.)

    This season, without one of the best rebounders of our generation we are grabbing 1.1 more rebounds per game(41.6 from 40.5) and actually out-rebounding our opponents by a full rebound per, as opposed to last year when we got out-rebounded by half a rebound per night.

    We also lost Bens ability to block the ball, and yet we average the exact same amount as last year(6bpg).

    This year we also average .786 at the freebie line, as opposed to .727 last year, wich means we shoot, on average better then any team we face( .786 to .750) as opposed to last year(.727 to .736) when we were worse from the line on average then any team we faced.

    Our offense is almost exactly the same in terms of point per(97.1 to 96.8) yet we are shooting worse from the field(.449 from .455)

    Lots of oddball stats that need to be fully fleshed out and discussed. We are scoring more points, but our assists are WAY down over last year as well(21.2 from 24.0)

    Our team is in flux right now, and these oddities in the statistics are to be expected. By the end of the year, I fully expect our assists, FG%, rebounding, damn near everything to improve even more when game totals are added from Webbers insertion inot the starting lineup.

    I'm just to damn tired tonight to do it, but I will have a full workpuo before the game tommorow showing differences from last year, to this year, and trends, alongside Webbers impact, and Nazrs impact and the differences between the two, and side by side compariosns with Bens impact.

    The stats are coming boys, I just need some time.

    Webber's PER with Detroit is 19.82.

    Chauncey Billups (22.63)
    Richard Hamilton (20.21)
    Rasheed Wallace (15.37, just above average, which is 15.00)

    * 5-0 when allowing under 80 points.

    * 13-1 when allowing 80-90 points.

    * 8-6 when allowing 90-100 points.

    * 2-9 when allowing 100-110 points.

    * 1-2 when allowing 111+ points.

    Goddamn.
    We're basically undefeated when actually playing defense. Further proof that, for *this* team, this "defense isnt important" offense only outscoring trend is bullshit. 90 is the magic number.

    Yea, we'll never be capable of scoring like phoenix and and the wizards w/o having to play defense. We arent built for it and with Webber we are officially a half court team again by force. We also communicate on defense better(nazr wasnt strong at this). Webber=LB. Odd but maybe true.
