I'm at Menards. I'm going to ask somebody what happened to the crazy old man that used to do their commercials. I bet my wife $5 that he's dead.

What did you find out? The guy I talked to had no clue.

He's alive and well. He's taken up piano since his retirement and also enjoys playing the stock market. "Now's the time to buy!" His son is on CSI. When he was 21 and just out of the navy he played drums in a 4 man swing outfit. They went on the road and played for ten years before rock and roll came along. If you ask him, he'll mail you an autographed picture.

I'm thinking if he was dead, Glan would have known.

Maybe we should start a fake internet rumor that he committed suicide?

RAY: The other thing I wanted to tell you is that I had some college kids call me at 9 o’clock one night. They were having a party at their dorm, and they said, “Is this Mr. Menard?” And I said, “Well, yeah, this is Ray Szmanda.” And they said, “Will you say it for us?”
Well I could hear the noise in the background – the music and the clinking of the glasses – and I said, “Save big money at Menards!” They said, “Far out,” and that was the end of the conversation.
It was just great.

At a Japanese restaurant last night, I was chowing down on sushi and udon while reading a great book about evolutionary psychology and consumerism called "Spent":

The author is punchy, and this quote made me laugh out loud in the restaurant:

But last night was DA BOMB. I got to cross another thing off my "bucket list"--and Britney Spears is gonna have a sore asshole for a long time. Oh, the beauty of fame. I'm past the point of wondering whether I could fuck people like Britney Spears or Bob Costas if I wasn't famous.
