Lightbulb Wolves offered S&T for Ben?

Didn't see this posted anywhere and found it interesting.

"It was futile, but word is the Timberwolves at least tried through a sign-and-trade to acquire Ben Wallace from the Detroit Pistons before he left for the Chicago Bulls." (www.twincities.com/mld/pioneerpress/15114131.htm)

    Wonder what they were offering.

Garbage. Outside of KG they've got nothing and since they aren't under the cap we would've needed to take an equal amount of salary in return.

It was probably Jaric or Hudson, some overpaid center (like Blount or Kandi, I forget who is there all of the sudden) and a draft pick.

You can bet your life it wasn't KG.
Phil Wenneck: The man purse. You actually gonna wear that or are you just fuckin' with me?
Alan Garner: It's where I keep all my things. Get a lot of compliments on this. Plus it's not a purse, it's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.

I'm much happier we let Ben stay in conference (in our division no less) for nothing.
I won the second WTF Sportsbook contest, which means I am either really smart or really lucky. Don't bet on either!

There are two ways of looking at that.

    1. We would have gotten some guys that we could have traded or put to use, and another draft pick.

    2. We would have been stuck with contracts we didn't want and couldn't move, and wouldn't have been able to sign anyone else because we would go over the luxury tax (I'm not sure how close we are).

Depending on if we thought we could move the pieces we got for Ben, it could have been a good deal or it could have blow up in our faces. Personally, I want nothing to do with the Kandi-man and I've heard both of those pg's are nutcases.

Both those contracts are so ugly, and no other team wants them. That's why the Wolves are fucked for a few more years until they start making trades

Its not like Joe turned these deals down. Ben said "no thanks.".

That and the fact that if we wouldn't give Ben 15 million, why the hell would we accept close to 15 million in junk for him if he wanted to go there?

yeah people forget- ben would have to agree to the sign and trade, so the decision rested with him, no matter who the wolves may have offered.

and minnesota surely was not on his list of teams.

    Correct.

Minny, Philly, and NY all offered S+T's, but Ben didn't want to go to anywhere but Chicago.

I'd guess that the offer included Davis, too. Blount, Davis, and a pick?

    They could've went:

    James/Hudson
    Foye/Jaric
    Hassell/McCants
    KG/Griffin
    Ben/Kandi
