Earlier this week, you may have heard about a hot event -- the kind that none of us in the Midwest gets to experience unless something like the Super Bowl is in town.

MySpace.com, the Internet social networking site where musicians -- and non-music makers -- hang out online, put on a bash Monday in Hollywood that brought out some of the hottest folks in hip-hop. Pharrell, Snoop, Nelly, Lupe Fiasco, Slim Thug, Clipse and about 400 of their MySpace friends got a live preview of Pharrell's new album, which hits stores Tuesday.

This weekend, MySpace arrives Saturday at Pontiac's Sevin the Nightclub for a party called MySpace Invades Detroit. No Pharrell, of course, but it has an entertainment lineup that's sure to be a talker.

"We've been doing these parties since day one," says 30-year-old Tedskillet, the hype man who oversees marketing, promotions and events for MySpace.

You may not have known about the event if you aren't one of the people plugged into MySpace, a place where users build their own sites free and put out mass invites to parties and events. MySpace officials searched its database for anyone who has a MySpace page and lives within 50 miles of Detroit, and then invited anyone who has logged on within the last two weeks to the event. The total? More than 200,000 people.

"I'm very excited. I doubt all those people will come. Even if we had half a percent," it would be about 1,000 people, "and I'd be happy with that," says Ray Hughes, the manager of the nightclub.

Calling the event a party may not exactly do it justice. It's really an experience.

"I wanted to reinvent parties and nightclubs in Detroit," says Hughes. "Rather than charging a $20 cover where people come in and see the same people and hear a DJ, we tried doing the theme rooms. I just wanted to make it a compete experience. ... I think it's good to change it up every once in a while."

One of the official MySpace DJs -- DJ Scene -- will be spinning. Kyle from "America's Next Top Model" (the contestant from Dexter) will be hosting the event with Tedskillet. If that's not enough, there will be a body painter, a fire breather, a magician, a stilt walker, a percussionist and a break dance performance.

In other words, it's a place you'll want to be if you're the type who scrolls Web sites and reads about all of the cool parties happening every place but here.

yes those are pretty nice stocks if you bought them back in the day. Myspace is wack for the most part. But good for shameless self promoting and networking. But its lame for all that hook up shyt they do.

    I went. Really fun night.

My homegirl is one of "Sevin's hottest Seven" and I'm fan of breakbeats.

Though I will say if you don't know her and you don't like breakbeats it would've been pretty damn stupid.

    Cool, then.

I had this vision of "young kids and the stalkers that love them".
