Thread: USC in trouble?

What I don't like is that the NCAA is focusing on the wrong area. Cut a deal with the NFL, a joint resolution that will severely punish any AGENT or MANAGER that inteferes with a college kid while he's still eligible.

First offense, the agent is placed on probation for five years.

Second offense, see ya! He loses his ability to work the college scene -- no kid entering the draft will be allowed to use the agent. Period. No gray area. Done. Forever! The agent is still allowed to retain his current roster, so his ability to earn a living for himself is left reasonably intact, and thus the punishment is not unduely excessive... i.e., he can't sue.

However, if he utilizes either boosters or junior agents to do his recruiting work, and is caught, the junior agent loses THEIR status, as well, and the university is forced to levy financial retribution against the booster, I would think in the form of a six digit contribution to an NCAA charity. And the AGENT? Banned from the NFL. He must relinquish all of his clients. If the NFL can do this to players, then they can do it to agents! And don't think for a second the owners won't love seeing some assclown like Drew Rosenfatass drop kicked right out of the league.

Also, any player coming into the draft who retains an agent MUST stay with that agent throughout the duration of the contract, again to eradicate any behind-the-scenes string pulling.

Instead, the NCAA goes after the kids. Yes, go after the poor kid who's mom has never touched a $100 bill, or father who's never worked less than 50 hours in a week... just to make ends meet. Offer them riches, and promises of a better life. Of course they're going to dive headfirst into the cookie jar!

And all the while, the agents continue their act, over and over and over again. Maybe it's about time some of these agents felt the three strikes law in full effect?

And that's what Denny has to say about THAT... bitches!

More Trojan trouble? WR Jarrett under investigation

Southern California officials are investigating whether an upscale apartment that wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett shared with former teammate Matt Leinart violated NCAA rules, according to a published report Sunday.

Leinart's father, Bob, put the duo on the lease at the secured apartment complex downtown after Leinart moved out of his former residence near campus because he was constantly hounded by fans.

Leinart - the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback picked 10th by the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL draft Saturday - and Jarrett each paid $650 a month for the apartment that cost $3,866 a month, according to the Los Angeles Times. Leinart's father paid the difference and said he's been told Jarrett might have to repay him about $10,000, the newspaper reported.

University compliance officials are looking into whether the football program received an unfair advantage. While Bob Leinart would have been allowed to make up the difference for his son, he might not have been allowed to do so for another player.

Tim Tessalone, USC's director of sports information, confirmed Sunday that an investigation involving Jarrett's living arrangement was under way.

"At this point, we're still gathering information," Tessalone told The Associated Press, declining further comment.

The investigation is the latest cloud over the Trojans' football program. The Pac-10 is looking into the living arrangement of 2005 Heisman winner Reggie Bush's family, who lived in a house owned by a man who reportedly sought to market him while he played for USC last season. NCAA rules prohibit student-athletes and their families from receiving extra benefits from agents or their representatives.

The police is continuing its investigation into a female student's accusation that backup quarterback Mark Sanchez sexually assaulted her. Sanchez was freed last week after posting $200,000 bail. He was due back in court on May 17.

Hey, if USC forfeits the games, Oregon gets a free Pac-10 championship.

And you know you'd hit it.
