Midway Snags TNA Wrestling License
A next generation game in the works.
By Charles Onyett, Mar 2, 2006
Midway announced at their Pulse even in Los Angeles that they'd grabbed a hold of the exclusive TNA (Total Nonstop Action) wrestling license and will be publishing games for all next generation systems in the future. No concrete release date was announced, so little will likely be available for next generation systems until at least 2007. Gameplay footage was absent as well, or renders for that matter. Instead, Midway displayed a montage of spliced together television footage from the TNA show that airs on FX. What is TNA wrestling? From the video shown at Midway's event, they're marketing it as a more extreme, action-oriented alternative to WWE. The ring they use has six sides instead of four. They've got several specialty match types including a six-sided cage and a race for a belt suspended above the ring by four ropes. From what was shown, we can assume these sorts of modes will be available in the actual game. We'll have more information as it becomes available.
