Sure you can point to Bobby Lashley, Booker T and Ron Simmons as 3 dudes who were pushed well at various times but they are the exceptions... there are countless examples of stereotype gimmicks for minorities... especially in Memphis where Lawler ran his company

It needs to be said - wrestling back in the day was no different to the music industry - people took whatever drugs were available and drank whatever booze was available and obviously that ain't good for you

Living on the road 300 days of every year isn't good for you. Taking bumps every one of those 300 days isn't good for you.

Fuckers only got time off if they got a serious injury that actually required rehab - cause if they had a minor injury they worked through it

Pro wrestling is a business where you rely on your opponent to make you look good - if he makes you look good and you 2 have great matches then you can continue to square off time after time after time over a long period and earn money (Flair, Shawn Michaels, Sting, Steamboat, Savage all did this well)

BUT... pro wrestlers are fucking paranoid to the extreme... because they rely on their opponent to make or break them they are always aware that they are in the ring with someone who also wants to move up the totem pole... so how good do you make that guy look? He can't look better than you otherwise he moves up and you don't...

It creates a never ending game of politics backstage

Obviously it's different today - WWE is corporate so the drinking and drugs is not "allowed", it's actually frowned upon! I read an article the other day saying 2 wrestlers had a cookie eating contest at a hotel and the old time agents actually laughed about it
