What should happen with Confederate iconography? Reasonable people disagree, and such disagreement will get heated. In other shocking news, water is wet.

The situation with the Robert E. Lee statue in Charlottesville is even more complex. Sure, there's differing feelings about Lee and Confederate iconography. To me, the biggest deal is that the park where the protests happened was properly owned and privately donated to the city to host the Lee statue. It was named Lee Park, even. If they don't want it, donate the land back to the donor's estate. But, of course, they want to keep that precious little park in the center of downtown...

Does any of tihs excuse some asshole from the "Jews will not replace us" Hitler salute crowd... y'know... FUCKING NAZIS... running into people with his car? FUCK NO! Just how big of a clue-by-four does Trump need to see that? What a fucktard! But, of course, he probably does have a clue, but he wants to play nice with those precious little all-white all-right supporters...

Keep in mind the most of these statues are a 20th century innovation, mostly Jim Crow-era shit. In many cases, they were built on state property. In some cases, that property was seized from where blacks lived. quite deliberately. The whole point was to let blacks know who was in charge.

Not all the statues are like that. As near as anyone can figure, the statue of Robert E. Lee at Charlottesville seems to be more about romanticism for the Confederate past. The donator wasn't known to be particularly racist -- hell, he donated a park named after Booker T. Washington, too. Lee is a complex figure in history -- hell, we put him on stamps and shit.

Not sure it matters, but that's the truth of it.

The Left is soooooo stupid. No wonder Democrats hold nothing in most states, they have no strategy except to hang their hat on stuff that doesn't effect people with real struggles. If this statue shit keeps continuing, say hello to President Pence or Trump in 2020.
