Random thought but I wonder to what extent the tax cuts are affecting MLB free agent negotiations? Player salaries are a deduction for the teams so now that they marginally are able to keep more of those dollars as profit there's less incentive to give the money to players. By the same token, the same $10 Million salary for a player now leads to significantly more take-home pay so theoretically at least (obviously not in practice...) they should be willing to accept less in salary.
