I suspect there's some team option(s), and we get his Bird rights at the end if he's any good.
So maddening. Whose fault is that? I can remember begging SVG to give the kid a chance when there was nothing else to play for. Argh! There were questions about Dinwiddie’s shooting ability in the past, but he’s shooting 38% from three-point range this season. “It’s like a lot of things,” Pistons coach/president Van Gundy said before the game. “He didn’t really get an opportunity with us. He’s getting an opportunity to go out there and play every night and he’s playing well. He’s playing very, very well, and I’m happy for him.” 2 days ago – via Detroit Free Press

Our plethora of shooters crowded him out.
He's not a loss though.
STEW BEEF!
I agree that he's not any big loss, but that philosophy is really shitty. Draft a kid, never give them a chance to play -even when your team sucks and should be tanking- let him go for nothing, and then say "oh wow, he never got a chance with us".

Wasn't he injured when we drafted him? (Basically)
