I've only seen signal boosters for radios in your house, not for a car radio.
Has it always been this way, or did something change? Before investing in a booster (they exist and aren't that expensive), make sure your antenna itself doesn't suck or else you're just pissing money at the wrong problem. If you have an old portable stereo or new phone or whatever that can get FM signals, turn it on where your wife gets "bad signal" and see what it sounds like.
Replace it with a cb, HAM radio or a ticker tape machine. Maybe even a telegraph switch.
