Thread: Is this season 'rock bottom' for the Pistons?

I still think that if this team stayed relatively healthy this year, than we'd be close to .500. We will have a better record next year but all that's gonna do is keep us in the group of teams that are bad but not bad enough to really have a shot in the lottery. In that regard, the worst is yet to come.

Getting out of Rip's contract would change everything for this team. He's still a damn good player but that's gonna be tough. The Knicks may be our best option. Say they sign 2 big free agents, would they than turn around and ship Eddie Currys expiring deal for Rip Hamilton? Hopefully, they could trade Prince to a contender for a late 1st and an expiring. Knowing Joe though, Prince is probably about to recieve an extension and he wishes to keep Rip as well.

How? Can someone explain this to me? Would we be able to make a max offer in '11?

Hermy - I think the idea is that Rip and his fat contract will be traded for a big man.

Does that help us? Depends on which big man we get.

Of course, that assumes Rip even gets traded.

I voted no. Ben Wallace has been one of the few bright spots as our best rebounder and interior defender and he wore down pretty quickly. He will only be older next season and I think that if he comes back, he won't have much left in the tank.
The draft pick might be nice but Joe's record on drafting....sucks...and still you are going to have a bunch of young and inexperienced players on the floor. I just don't see things getting any better.

I tend to agree, mick. Some of the glass half-full stuff has been posted already, but there are plenty of potential challenges.

Ben is either gone or decrepit.

Rip and Tay are another year older and have more mileage on the tires.

Chris Wilcox possibly moves up the depth chart with Kwame gone.

Stuckey's playing for a contract and will likely look to involve others even less.

Bynum could be gone, and if so, who will be the backup PG?

Gordon might be frustrated that Rip is blocking him.

Another young player or more added to the roster that will need playing time.

    etc.
    Find a new slant.

I don't know about a max but it would free up the money to do something else and it opens up the logjam that we have at shooting guard.

The only guys that would currently be under contract would be Gordon, Maxiel, Daye, Villanueva, and whomever our pick is this year. We would need to resign Stuckey and Jerebko that summer.

I would bet that Bynum is our backup pg next year. He probably won't get overpaid now that he was hurt and really didn't do too much this season. (Unless, of course, we win the lottery)

So, Ben Gordon isn't our backup PG behind Stuckey?
