    Counting Cards In Casinos

If you're employing a Hi/Lo system, and the count is +6 or higher, should that prevent you from hitting on either a 15 or 16 when the dealer's showing an 8, 9, or 10?

    Share your wisdom with me.

It's worked at MGM for the last week I've started it, so I figure it's worth the extra time to figure out how to do it correctly...

Plus, the libs want gas at $4/gal, so I'm going to need a bigger budget to offset the forthcoming progressive agenda

Unless you're working with 3-4 other people, don't waste your time. By the time you get up to any kind of serious bet spreads, they'll be all over you and shut you down.

Shut you down? For what? They can talk to you, try and distract you, but they WANT you in there playing. More people playing blackjack = more $$$ for the casino. I find it hard to believe they would kick someone out if they suspected counting cards.

Especially a 21 year old playing at $25 a hand...they wouldn't think much of it unless it was painfully obvious.

I'm in the novice stages, and it's always paid some dividends.

MGM uses 6 decks and dealers stay on soft 17...the counting itself is easy, it's just the strategy of it (like the question I had in #1) which I'm curious about...

$25 a hand is your top bet?? You may have been getting lucky so far and doing ok, but unless you're making a much bigger spread on your bets, you're going to have down days too. Things even out pretty quick.

I'm not trying to discourage you too much, sorry if it sounds that way, it can be pretty fun too, but counting 6 decks, you need a huge spread in your bets to make it pay off when the count's real good, and a huge bankroll to weather the storm when you sometimes just plain get unlucky on good counts.

I just play for fun, but I use a base $10 bet and double it each time I lose. When I win a hand, back down to $10. There's probably a name for that "system" but I don't know what it is. Things get a little interesting when you lose 3,4 or 6 hands in a row, but you have to have the balls and the bankroll to stick with it or you're sunk. I need about $750 to feel good sitting down with that approach.
    Find a new slant.

Problem with that system is you get 6 bets to win a hand or you generally hit table limits.
