Considering that michigan is also one of the largest universities in the country, i doubt that the number of students is a major factor in the difference between universities. I bet that an examination of post-career income for non pro athletes would show that michigan players fare better than msu players after graduation. If the question is whether athletes take easier classes than the general population at u-m, the answer is unequivocally yes. However, that hardly makes them worse off than if u-m did not accept them via athletic scholarship in the first place.
