F.A. SIGNING: Pistons strike deal with Ben Gordon

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slu...yhoo&type=lgns

The Detroit Pistons have reached agreement with free-agent guard Ben Gordon on a five-year contract worth around $55 million, a source with knowledge of the talks told Yahoo! Sports Wednesday evening.

The Pistons are continuing to negotiate with forward Charlie Villanueva.

July 8 is the first day free agents can sign contracts.

Gordon and Villanueva, who played together for a year at UConn, traveled to Detroit on Wednesday morning to meet with Detroit president Joe Dumars.

We have a go-to guy in the clutch again.

He's one of the best pure scorers in the NBA, as well as an elite clutch shooter.

Yes, Joe needs to compliment him with some defense at the 3 and shot blocking at the 5, but he's a very good building block.

so what does that make the first year worth?

if this was our last move i wouldn't be thrilled. but adding a young dynamic scorer who can be a legit go-to guy AND can take people off the dribble and finish or get to the line......HUGE coup for us.

now we need to make some trades too and keep adding good players in FA.

unfortunately i believe we'll spend the rest of our cap money on charlie V. if gordon's deal starts at over $10 mil, then we'll only have $8 or $9 mil left for charlie V. so that means there's only about 2-3 million to offer someone else.

could definitely still get a decent player with that money, but i'm just saying we'll be mostly done in FA once that's locked up.

then it's on to the trade market where we should unload rip and prince IMO.

    Mr. Billion Shots.

Actually I do think it is a good signing. Let's see what happens with the rest of the offseason. Anyone keeping a tally on how much cap room we got left?

9/10/11/12/13 = 55 mil, not exactly a bargain but well, he should get better, and hit his prime at the end, could be worth it

now what we get for RIP?
