Honestly we have a great system to have more than one party. Unfortunately people in this country tend to only think of presidential elections and winner take all. All grass roots movements seem to have the need to do this within one of the big two. I don't see why. Yes that would fraction a party, and of course hurt its chances for presidential elections. But the Congress is important. Voting blocks are still power in congress and could get on committees. There are state elections and you can see that governors can be from other parties to get elected.
