Find a new slant.
The auctions never end because everyone bids in the last 10 seconds.
^^Yep.
Not until you get to an amount that nobody else is willing to pay any higher.Originally Posted by MikeMyers

THIS SITE IS A SCAM
I watched it for 2 days straight ( trying to come up with a formula to win of course)
Swoopo games their own auctions by driving up the prices to certain levels.
They also randomnize the bidding prices to screw YOU over, this is why they don't provide a complete bid history only a (most recent bidders)
You will see users spend hundreds of dollars in bids just to drive up the price and get other people to dump money in with bids. I've also talked with someone who personally worked there and was part of this.
Aside from that, it is damn near impossible to win anything on that site, you have to spend hour after hour and hour waiting to pick your spot, and it's still a crap shoot.
I swear to god, you have better odds playing blackjack in a casino.
Hype?
I've thinking a lot about this site and the ridiculous amount of money these people are making and it's even worse than it first appears. With their "100% off" auctions, no matter how high the price gets, you only pay shipping. Theoretically, these auctions should never end -- and swoopo will just keep collecting their $1 a bid....forever!
Let's say you're bidding on $1,000 cash (yes, they're auctioning off cash....hilarious). The last bidder gets the loot. Now obviously, you shouldn't spend any more than $999 on bids to get the cash or it's a losing proposition. But let's say you (and probably 10 other people) have spent the $999, should you just stop? No, everyone should keep bidding.
It's bad to spend over $999 to get only $1000 back but it's even worse to spend over $999 and get NOTHING back, so if someone's dumb enough to already be in for the $999, they still should keep bidding as the bids they've already spent are a sunk cost. This holds true into infinity. It would be dumb to spend $25,000 to get back only $1000 but even worse to spend $24,999 and get nothing back. There are going to be poor old ladies emptying their saving accounts over this shit.
Ha, I just went back to the site and they've taken the "100% off" auctions off and it just says " If you browse through ended auctions, you might come across some other auction types that we used to use. In order to provide a more convenient bidding experience, we no longer use these auction types, but to show the list in its entirety, here's how they worked:"
I wonder if they got busted for it being gambling or something.
They also changed the bid cost from $1 to $.75, presumably to make it harder for people to do the math in their heads and figure out how much the bids they'd need to use are worth.
