The reason I could see Blank going for Carroll is that Carroll has already won it all at USC. Seriously, nothing shy of 5 straight championships is going to top his current situation. Meanwhile, for a guy like Petrino, he didn't win jack in college and could obviously be lured away by the chance to win again without a salary cap.
BTW, I think Carroll WILL stay at USC, because he has the roster to actually go ahead with that 5 straight championships thing.

I'd rather keep dominating in college and end up (possibly) being considered one of the best college coaches than jump to the pros and make a fool of myself with an organization like the Falcons.
