    I just took basketball-reference.com PER #s for Lanier and Hill's Detroit seasons, added together and divided by the # of seasons:

    Lanier: 22.6
    Hill: 22.5

    That's close. http://www.basketball-reference.com/about/per.html shows how they sort out PER for older seasons.

    In that case, in stead of using Player Efficiency Rating, you can always use the New Efficiency Rating Definition.
