SAN ANTONIO (AP)—Tony Parker(notes) will miss the next game for the French national team after the Spurs confirmed a mild right ankle sprain in their star point guard.

The Spurs brought Parker back to San Antonio for tests after their leading scorer injured his ankle and thigh in a collision with an Austrian player last week. Parker is not expected to play when France plays Italy on Wednesday in a European championship qualifier.

The Spurs said Parker will rejoin the French team this week, and that his return will depend on how his ankle responds to treatment.

Parker has said earlier tests showed no signs of ligament tears or serious complications.

Langlois: I think you can make a case for any of five teams, David – the Lakers, San Antonio, Orlando, Cleveland and Boston. If San Antonio can stay healthy – and, really, there are legitimate health concerns with all five teams – I’d put my faith in Gregg Popovich and Tim Duncan to find a way to win one last title to put the exclamation point on a terrific run. Houston has a real chip in McGrady’s expiring contract. The Rockets can let him walk and have enough cap space to sign a maximum free agent if the salary cap doesn’t fall to the low end of NBA projections. So any trade package that would tempt Houston to give up McGrady before the trade deadline would have to provide the Rockets with a package they like enough to move them out of next summer’s free-agent market. His status will be monitored as vigilantly as anyone’s this season.
