Doug Gilbert returned to Memphis and joined Power Pro Wrestling in July 1999, but in October, Gilbert was immediately fired for giving a shoot interview where he revealed to the audience that Brian Christopher held his championship titles in the United States Wrestling Association because his father Jerry Lawler owned the company.[3] He also accused promoter Randy Hales of smoking crack during the broadcast and accused Lawler of raping a 13-year-old girl,[4] but failed to mention that the alleged victim recanted her story and that Lawler had been cleared.[5] Power Pro Wrestling would shut down in 2001.
