-Backcourt is old and/or short, frontcourt is thin and/or nonexistent
-Have to sign 4 more players using their own free agents (featuring standouts like Devean George and Jamaal Magloire), the MLE/minimum contracts, and their second-round pick

Likely draft philosophy
The Mavs need shoring up in every area, but have limited opportunities to do so. Outside of the lottery, big guys seem to me to be worse than wing players, so barring a trade I'll probably look toward versatile backcourt players with my lone pick. It's going to be a crapshoot either way, so I might as well go for speed and slashing ability and hope for the best.

Dallas selects Gary Forbes with the #51 pick. Hoping for a more defensive-minded SG, but my first choices were all taken. Welcome to the team, Forbes! (At least the summer league team.)
