Now that we have seen enough of C. Webb to make an accuate assessment, who would you rather have on the Pistons right now?? I'm not asking who's better because they are very different players and the team's style of play changes with either player. I'm asking if you could have one or the other going into the playoffs this year, who would you want??
I don't think we've seen enough Chris Webber for an accurate assessment. His history of fucking up come playoff time is well known, and I need to see playoff games before I feel really confident in him. The thing that's in his favor is that Ben wasn't a very consistent threat in last year's playoffs, and it's possible that he may not hold up down the playoff stretch. Of course, Webber's history of holding up just in general is spotty at best, and it's quite possible that even the great Arnie Kander can't keep him functional.
webber will be more help vs dallas and the suns. some other matchups i might rather have ben. not sure which, though. getting webber was landing on our feet after losing a great big man.
I'm going to go with Webber, and I'll say simply because Webber is no longer expected to carry his team.
This team has 6 other good player Webber can blend in with, he'll have some bad games, and some really good ones, as does every other Piston.
I think the fact he no longer commands double teams and the fact he has so many good players around him will hide whatever past weaknesses he's had. He has such a high basketball IQ and seems hungry and has quickly become a team leader, he'll be huge come playoff time.
Webber at his current salary and Ben at his?
I took salary into account because it is the reason why we have who we have. I vote C-Webb.
wow, zero votes for Big Ben, lol. i knew we Detroiters were a bitter bunch, but i didn't expect that.
i chose CWebb because of salaries (as mentioned above) and because I think this year's team is stronger than last year's.

EDIT: Because I sincerely believe the ability to put the orange thing through the hoop is pretty important if you want to be a good basketball player.

Come playoff time when defensive intensity increases and easy points are hard to come by this will come back to haunt this team. I wonder whom people would prefer then?
ps- since when did defensive/rebounding specialists become a detriment to winning? Anyone ever hear of Dennis Rodman or Bruce Bowen before?
I feel that salary should not be taken into account in this poll. If both said they would play for free and play their hardest who would you want ben or chris
we know what Ben can do, if he plays his hardest, so that's not fair either, its an easy choise...we can't change it anyway, we've played some nice games with Cwebb, he deserves a chance to get it done in the playoffs...now or neverQuote:

As for Webber, tough comparison, since it's still the regular season, and there's no way he can replace Wallace's emotional impact. Maybe he brings a new enthusiasm that will provide as much imprtance, and that would be a fair trade because the Pistons weren't going anywhere with Wallace at center anymore anyway.

Yeah and it concerned me last year when we gave up layups regularity in the playoffs as well... You Say that Easy points are hard to come by in the playoffs? Yes they are which is why CWebb's low post game and passing will be huge.... We relied stictly on jumpshots last year and now, while we still probably shoot too many, We get much more easy baskets this year...Quote:

Our biggest threat in the East is Miami.... Ben get's abused by Shaq... Webber will get abused by Shaq as well... However, Webber will make Shaq work at the other end of the court.... The fact that Shaq is going to have to try to cover Sheed, Webber, or McDyess gives the Pistons an advantage they didn't have last year when Shaq didn't have to worry about Ben... Against other teams, I might rather have Ben but quite frankly, I'm not sure any other team in the East has a prayer to beat Detroit in a 7 game series...(Chicago will be tough though)

that Kings team was great, but Timmy D and his Spurs and the Lakers were just plain unstoppable for those years.
Webber is HUNGRY now. And it seems like McDyess is just as much as Webber, and this will be huge.
Delfino's all out hustle will really help in the playoffs as well. Webber is rubbing off on these guys and come playoff time this team could be REALLY scary.
If we had an overpaid laissez fare Ben Wallace, this team would be a second round bounce.
Webber's career playoff stats are 20.9 ppg, 9.3 rpg, and 4.2 apg. Check his stats under basketballreference.com. He had some great numbers with the Kings.Quote:

Which were much less than his stats those same years, along with a decrease in fg% and ft%. He was a good player in the playoffs, but not as good as he was a regular season guy. Add in the disappointment of never making a finals and he's not a player who lists "clutch playoff performer" on his resume.Quote:
