I'm surprised this has zero replies
play for now, always. fuck the draft, we could all die tomorrow. That's the way I see it.
These are words to live by in life, not just if you are an NBA team.Quote:

Tank.
Or, you know, believe that the odds of landing supreme talent in the draft this time around are lower than the Pistons' odds winning a title this year. :)
you play to win the games.
even if i'd like to have a top 5 pick to get a nice starting 5, i guess the east is not that good, if we get healthy anytime soon, this should be a playoff team
If we were a really shit fucking team (like New Jersey) I'd say tank it. Who gives a fuck, right? You're gonna lose most of them anyway.
I'd play the team "properly" until we no longer had the worst record ever and then tank.
BUT our team is completely different. I believe Joe thinks we actually have a lot of Championship Pieces. This was gonna be a long ass post in it's own thread looking at 60 win teams and their pieces and how we relate but fuck it:
In Joe's mind I believe he thinks:
Big Ben is a Championship Piece
Super Nova is a Championship Piece
Tay is a Championship Piece
Rip is a Championship Piece
BG is a Championship Piece
Bynum is a Championship Piece
Maxiell could be a Championship Piece
Jerebko could be a Championship Piece
Daye could be a Championship Piece
Stuckey is a Championship Piece (lol)
Our problem is that by the time some of our guys become Championship Pieces a couple of those pieces we already have will be gone.
So what we really need to do is play balls out now, hope to showcase the best of this Franchise and then come July 1st, 2010 make a sign and trade with Toronto for Chris Bosh
As a fan, there are times where I recognize that it would be better if we lost (like last year, and maybe even eventually, this year). But if I found out that the organization was intentionally trying to lose, I would be fucking pissed.
So should we try to tank? No.
Would it be better if we lost as many games as possible this year? Maybe.

He's not swinging for the fences with every move.
Neither do I.
Championship pieces: Gordon, Rip, Tay, JJ and Daye. I say the two rookies are because they make next to nothing. Stuckey could be when paired with the proper backcourt mate. Bynum could be a solid backup on a championship team.
Nova is not a championship piece at what he is being paid.
Everyone else would not be much help on a championship team.
LMAO @ Ben Wallace being no help on a Championship Team!
If you're looking for a Championship Piece he's the guy.
Nova? I think Joe sees him as a piece due to his skill set. Probably would be ideal as a 6th Man on a title team. Maxiell could be the hustle/effort/banger type most title teams have...
Jerebko could become anything.
But I'm just speculating on what Joe thinks he has.
Charlie V could become to us what Lamar Odom is to the Lakers. It's silly to say a guy that can score like that isnt a championship piece.
I agree, but I was saying with this team. They aren't winning the Championship in the next two years. Ben is playing fantastic but we can't fool ourselves to think that he's found the fountain of youth and will be able to play for the next 10 years.Quote:

Lamar Odom is paid like a starter too. He Makes a million more than Charlie V.
Shit, Adam Morrison is their 12th man and makes only a million less.
It's not like V has a max contract. He makes a whopping 6.5 million, which is what a lot of top 6th men make.
Jason Terry Makes $10 million coming off the bench for Dallas. Millsapp makes $10 million coming off the bench for Utah.
Yeah, I think people's idea of CV's contract is distorted because he signed with Gordon and together they ate all our space.
Villa doesn't need to add anything to his game to be worth his contract. He is already. It'd be great if he blew up while we have him signed but that's not happening.
In the game of building assets while remaining within budget you have to wonder about Gordon, Rip & Tay.
What's the window?... 2011-12?
Rip would be to0 old and a boat anchor contract... For Gordon will his defense match his "O" and his salary?
CV is as bad at D as he's good at O... ok piece for the price.
The big question is what do we honestly have to offer that we're willing to give up to get the missing pieces... it's gonna take a sucker on the other side of the phone.
Draft picks?... it's starting to look like 10-15 range.
V is not as bad on D as he is on O...he does not have the talent to be a great defender, but he doesn' lack for effort on that end, either.
And Rip can do what he does well into his late 30's. Age is not a concern with him, only his contract.
I believe this question should be answered now. We're banged up, we're missing guys, and look at the heart and passion our guys are showing. Even earlier in the season when we lost those string of comeback heartbreakers... how can you not respect these guys? They don't fuckin give up. Let them keep trying to win. In doing so, they might actually learn how to win in the process.
I agree we're not winning the title in the next 2 seasons unless something super freaky happens (we deal Kwame for a piece, we land Bosh for Prince and Daye, win the Lottery and deal the pick, use the MLE)Quote:

Dude might not even have to play to be an asset on the squad
As for Nova - dude makes approx $6.5 mil - that's not a lot for a dude that can inside and out and drop 20 regularly. If he improves certain areas he's a bargain at that price.
And I think I said he'd be a great 6th Man on a title team. I don't believe he has the mental toughness to start and deliver each and every night at PF. But coming off the bench, with the green light? He's a great option.
So is Gordon and Bynum. Rip can continue to be a shooter like Reggie Miller was. Dude was how old when he retired? So the backcourt comes down to Stuckey's development (or lack thereof)
And I honestly believe Joe thinks that. I think he sees Rip, Stuckey, Gordon and Bynum as his backcourt for the next 5 years (or close to it)
It's up front where we need help
