Pistons' early draft prospects

This guy seems entriguing to me (with our pick or Minny's second):

Rodrigue Beaubois

The long wing span would allow him to defend the best guard while Stuckey could take the weaker offensive player. He's also a better PG while Stuckey is a better scorer. Might compliment each other very well. I know we have AA, but neither him nor Stuckey have great PG awareness (that may change). We're not going to get a center there that isn't a complete project.

I swear we already had a thread like this because I thought I posted a bunch of guys I thought had potential.

Roy Hibbert's draft status is nowhere near what it was a year ago. I would love to package something so we could move up and get him. Our 1st, Minny's 2nd, and cash or rights to something for Hibbert. That would be outstanding. He could answer our biggest inside needs.

I think he's a bust. He is pretty fuckin' stiff.

we have so much good young talent its hard to even think about this. unless a move is made (i still think a big change could happen after the season), these picks will all be superlative. we have a need at sf, beyond that, its pretty much all set. maybe another project big.

i dont know if i'd call hibbert a bust now, but i think he has heavy feet. cant imagine him ever being a 25+ mpg kinda guy.

Yeah, I had no interest in him last year before he decided to stay in school and I have no interest in him now. Maybe he proves everyone wrong, but we all saw how the experiment with Nazr went and who's to think he'll do any better? Those type of bigs are a dying breed in the NBA. I wouldn't mind grabbing a big with one of those picks, you can never have too many, but not trading up to get him.

I agree. NBAdraft.net has him compared to Pryz, who isn't more than a servicable center really. On top of that, the guy averages less than 7 rebounds a game, and he's 7'2" tall.

He's only grabbed double digit boards 4 times all year:

10 against Pitt - played a 6'7" forward at center and a 6'6" PF for 33+ minutes each.
11 against Depaul - against a 6'9" center with less than 5 RPG.
10 against Old Dominion - against a senior center with 2.4 RPG.
10 against WVU - against a senior center with 2 RPG (that almost fouled out in his 19 minutes)

Nothing about that impresses me about his potential on the next level. The Pryz grabbed 11.2 rebounds a game in the big ten his last year.

Yeah, trading up for him would be a stupid idea. If he dropped into our laps, you'd have to consider giving him a shot, but trading up to get him just seems pointless. I'd rather have Amir and Samb out there using their athleticism and tenacity.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he isn't worth our pick. If you can get a center that isn't a total project at the end of the first you have to do it. But i thought higher of his potential last year. At this point he's not worth moving up to get.

He would have been better off declaring for the draft last year. He was near a lottery pick.

I thought it was yes, then I read an article that was posted on here somewhere about a month ago and it said something about them putting it off until next year. Now I can't remember if that was an article from last year or this year. I'm 99% sure we get it this year, Wil.

They won't get Miami's first unless they can get back into the playoffs. They won't send their first to LAC.

So maybe with Miami's second (which is about the same as their 2nd), they might send it to us. They may not want 3 rookies to add to the mix when they already have Jefferson, Green, Telfair, Foye, Brewer, McCants, Gomes and Simien in the mix as young players that need PT to develop.

So there's a chance it won't be this year, which it probably won't unless they're stupid.

I think it's 50-50 in my book. They'd get more value if they waited a year (they should improve). At the same time you'll have the 8 players I mentioned and 2 more draft picks in the mix. How many guys can you get PT for?

I can see a chance of us getting it for the reasons Chris stated. That's a lot of youth on one team.

Another senario is some of their youth growing like Al has and they trade a pick (or a couple young players) for a vet or two. That would probably push our pick to next year. It's too hard to tell right now.

Trade the 1st rounder for a proven talent... our projects list is long enough.
Apply the rookie contract towards staying under the lux and snag a better SF that Hayes with the MLE.
If we can't land a decent big in this draft then fuck it.

Who are we going to trade for?

If we sign a better SF, all we need is a true center (unless Samb becomes that) and a true PG. You can't get either of those for a late first rounder (at least not a decent one of either). You're better off drafting a PG there and hope he pans out. Here are some decent PG's drafted in the late first:

Rondo
Farmar
Jack
Nelson
Dixon

None of those are all stars, but they are definately better than you'll get in a trade. Parker was drafted in the late first/early 2nd too.

Right now I like Artie McShoester out of Ireland. He's a big man who can play all five positions on the floor, shoot the ball from anywhere on the court and he also has a sharp basketball IQ.

Sir Douche Baggins from Habberdashery U. has mad game as well.

Habberdashery U is playing Belfast U (Artie's school) pretty soon. I think the Pistons should send some scouts over there.
