Heading to the ISS. Noteworthy is one of the crew was drafted by the Detroit Lions. He was hurt in training camp and I don't think he ever played with us though.

Tahoe:
Let me know when the countdown gets to five seconds.
I thought maybe that there will be a Detroit Lion on board peeps might be on the edge of their seats. I know I'm prolly gonna check it out if something happens.
You weren't at the mall today Zip?
No. But it is about two minutes from my house. My kids walk there. But it was during school and work time.
By the way, if there is a Detroit Lion on board that shuttle, I hope the rest of the astronauts have their life insurance paid up.

The shuttle launch was scrubbed cuz of a fuel sensor shut down or something. I guess they would have just made it to the outer reaches of gravity then the engines would have shut down. Sounds like it really would have been bad.
They were going to try again tomorrow, but that was scrubbed too. So its on for Saturday ??? or so.
I was watching the guy in the ISS the other night and he was really hoping they could get it launched so he could be home for Christmas.
The retired Detroit Lion on the crew took it all in stride.
He's accustomed to disappointment.Quote:

And it looks like it'll finally launch tommorow. The Detroit Lion will be on board.
Doomed.Quote:

The hatch just closed. About an hour to blast off.
BTW...the Progress space craft docked with the ISS about 3am. So the ISS is fully fueled, watered, loaded with food and supplies.
The US has a new craft that will have 3 times(? or more) capacity of the Progress.
Guys, GUys GUYS take it easy. I'll give the updates as I can. Don't be all impatient. I work you know.
That must have been a helluva 8.5 minute ride.
They dock on Saturday.
Payload bay doors have been opened.
Mike Tirico (a renowned space expert) said yesterday that the astronauts travel 5 miles every single time their heart beats.
4.86 miles, but who's counting. :)
Because of space travel, and the ISS ball bearings are so much better then they used to be. They are more perfectly round now. So as you are driving down the street(and your wheel bearings aren't smoking) know that those heros up in the ISS are contributing to your well being.
The Shuttle docks Saturday 11:25 Central time.
They will unload and attach the Columbus module to the ISS.
Dan Tani will finally come home. He was only supposed to be up there a couple of weeks and be home for Christmas, but because of delays he's been up there over 3 months. He is the one who's mother died just after Christmas.
They THINK a couple of pieces of foam hit the underside of the Shuttle, but none seem to be serious.
They have a ton of pics and film to go through. After the Columbia disaster, they have film from 3 angles at launch, pics of the main, take pictures with the robotic arm, and finally they flip the shuttle right before docking and the ISS takes another set of hi res pics of the underside.
The tank seperates just after nominal orbit and the shuttle stays along side of it for a lil bit so they can take pics of it...to see if there are huge pieces of foam missing or something.
Also, I wish Mike Tirico posted here. Then I would have a friend.
:emo kid:
BTW...there is a guy on the shuttle who's name is Hans Schlagel. Fortunately, I like my name. Its french, I like it. But if I had to have another name, I'd pick Hans Schlagel.
It might not jump right out there at you, but say it a few times, it just rolls off the tongue.
Can any mods that read this please make sure to keep the thread title updated at all times?
Tahoe's putting a lot of work into this and we need to do right by him.
TIA
Note to the mod team:
We've got busy weekend ahead of us, boys.
Technically, it'd be 'Still orbiting' there's really no air in space, except for the air that is on the ISS. But the ISS isn't big enough to have the Shuttle fly around inside of it so that wouldn't work.
I was going to say that earlier but I didn't want to go all Zip Goshboots on you, with naming threads....e.g. Jethro UM
and thanks for name :)
Keep the info coming, Tahoe. I'll give you whatever help you need.

This is a pretty current config. The Columbia module will be attached on Monday.

LOL...thanks Mo.
Tahoe, are you taking questions in this thread?
Can you give me an update on how many miles Hans Schlagel has gone since his heart has beaten 13 times?
63.18 statute miles...assuming that he wasn't thinking about Helga Schlagel back home. Then the heart rate increases, travels less...yada yada yada.
They just did a lil booster burn to increase the rate that they are chasing the ISS. They are now chasing by 2.3feet more per minute than they were.
The ISS is roughly 300ft x 400 ft so ??? 2 football fields.
There is about an acre of arrays.
The Detroit Lion on board hasn't done shit yet.
