This is the original Ardent Records 45 version of "September Gurls" from 1974. It was mastered by Larry Nix at a different date than the RADIO CITY version, using varispeed technology, making this cut a few seconds shorter, quite a bit punchier and in a higher key. Alex Chilton's vocals offer up even more adenoidal urgency on this master, which was dedicated specifically for the airplay "September Gurls" never received (beyond a few markets) upon its initial release...
Think it's a private acct, then.
Let me know if you want me to stalk him and post more photos.

How old is he? Guessing he's got to be at least in his mid 40s.
Looks like he's got two adult children, so yeah.
Bought tickets for Those Pretty Wrongs a month or so ago, whenever it was announced....was totally on the fence about going, leaning toward no but I just started listening to the album and it's actually pretty good. Not Big Star good by any means but I thought it would be terrible...it's not...
I tried getting into that once before, maybe I'll try again.
Unrelated note, Alex's son posted something a while back that said that Alex was a big 'Law & Order' fan. I can't decide if it's cool that I know that now or I wish I didn't. Kinda regret knowing that.
Yeah, this was pretty fucking amazing.
They played the entire Those Pretty Wrongs album which was shockingly good. Like I was expecting it to be 'Hey this is ok but I love Big Star' but it was good enough that if that's all they did this would have been one of my favorite shows in ages....Just Jody singing and the other guy on amplified acoustic....
Then they encored with Way out West, For You, Ballad of El Goodo, Blue Moon, ...and like two more...good stuff....
I'm in love With A Girl was another one I think...
Sounds pretty sweet. Jody also seems like a really good person, which is irrelevant but refreshing.
If you spend just five minutes with Jody, your life will be better for it.
you was at the party

Super true though. This was a tiny room, like 50 people in there....Weird mix of Dad-Guys, Mom-Gals, younger folk and super cool people like me.
He was running the merch table himself, signing everyone's records, etc. Super nice, and seemingly shocked by the attention. (Or maybe just super stoned).
Alex Chilton documentary coming
And another BS doc

So a guy I know covered "Holocaust" but I haven't listened yet so I don't know if it's good enough to post here
7 years ago, yg
BUT IT'S BETTER THAN ANY VERSION OF 'HOLOCAUST' THAT I'VE RECORDED, RIGHT?
Yeah, WHERE'S YOUR SOUNDCLOUD ACCOUNT?
There was just a Big Star question on Jeopardy
I saw that. Thanks for helping me know the answer to a $2000 question, friends on WTFDetroit!
At nighttime, Trebek goes out and sees the people
(the sign, not the cat or the bike)
I've been planning on getting one of those made for months. I think I can get it for like $600. Trying to rationalize that to myself.
*Angry that someone beat me to it.
It's a silly brit, doesn't really count.

TIL (today I learned for you dad types) Chilton performed on the Afghan Whigs' 1965 album. Love the Whigs, surprised I didn't know this.

Though power-pop forefathers Big Star were active for just a few short years in the early-mid 1970s, the Memphis band has gone on to become one of the most influential artists in modern music, with a cult status that few can compete with. This new compilation celebrates Big Star with 16 tracks spanning all 3 of their LPs (1972's #1 Record, 1974's Radio City and Third, released after the group disbanded, in 1978), and features rare single versions of some of their most popular songs. Includes liner notes from GRAMMY-winning writer and director Robert Gordon, plus an introduction by sole surviving Big Star member, drummer Jody Stephens.
Friendly reminder that December boy's got it baaaaad.
