Wow, you want to know something really uncanny? I rented Gone Baby Gone and Into The Wild in one visit to Blockbuster last week. I really liked them both.

GBG was an excellent thriller about a private investigator who won't give up his moral compass for anyone, no matter how important they are to him. Casey Affleck was awesome and his Southie accent is totally genuine. Maybe Ben Affleck should just direct movies from now on, since everyone hates his face now.

ITW was really good because it had lots of nature in it and it was a very good sketch of a real person. What I really love is that the movie doesn't make the guy out to be a hero. He obviously makes some serious mistakes in his life and the movie shows you the consequences of those mistakes.

On another note, I am really looking forward to Stop Loss, as long as it doesn't get too political. I mean, of course it's kind of a political thing altogether, but mainly I'm just looking for a movie that realistically portrays military families and what their lives are like.

The Namesake features Kal Penn (Kumar of Harold & Kumar) in a dramatic role. It's a generational story of a Bengali Indian couple who immigrated to New York, had children, and are all trying to resolve living in two different cultures. It doesn't have that "overwrought" overly dramatic feel to it... it's quiet while rarely being boring. It'd be good for couples. Definite thumbs up.

I saw that too. I thought the lady who played his mom was awesome. She was really cute as a young woman but she also pulled off the old-lady role well too. The scene when she first arrives with her new husband in America is really cool.

Damn, I see a lot of movies.

A Pure Formaility.

15 years old or so. Roman Polanski, gerard Depardu(sp?). Great flick, French, so its subtittled, but well worth it.

I didn't get it till the very end.

Speaking of Polanski, The Pianist is truly a terrific movie. Yes, even with Adrien Brody in it (who a lot of people don't like, from what I gather).

Was Harvey whatshisname in that? Older guy?

Nope. Wrong movie. I'll rent the Pianist.

Just looked up the movie on IMDB, no Harveys in the cast list.
