Here is what Dann O'Neil said about McGuffie in an ESPN chat earlier today...
While the attention over the past year has been fun, O'Neill is surprised and disappointed by the amount of banter created on various Internet sites such as Rivals.com and Scout.com. Rivals reported Tuesday that Michigan recruit Sam McGuffie, a star running back from Texas, may waver on his verbal commitment to Michigan.
"That's just talk," O'Neill said. "Those people on Rivals are just trying to get more subscriptions. The other recruits and I would know if someone was going to commit. The two kids who did de-commit let us know before they did it so we wouldn't have to find out on Rivals.
"There were rumors about J.B. Fitzgerald going to Rutgers. He and I talked probably more than any other recruit, and he was talking about (Rutgers) before the new coaches were announced, but once they announced Coach Rod, he was set on Michigan.
"McGuffie loves it in Ann Arbor. He doesn't want to go anywhere else."
I hope he's right, but I've got a feeling he's not. I think he was feeling the sun in Berkely, and got scared off by Shaw.
I commented on McGuffie in the recruiting thread. Hopefully if Sam waits, he'll wait until after the dead period (which ends Friday) and RR can call him up and explain that it's recruiting sites that call all these 4* RB's what they are, but RR has plans to use each guy differently.
Here's the deal - Pryor and McGuffie would make this team phenomenally exciting, but they are going to be a potent offense either way.
I'm actually startign to get excited about what a Threet offense could look like, with the occasional Feagin change-of-pace.
And as always, Michigan Men, we must keep our eyes to the future! I know I sound like a broken record, but RR's main focus here had to be keeping the already stellar class together, and for the most part he did. He even kept Fred Jackson, probably more than just for McGuffie, but certainly to help with McGuffie. We have seen him work hard, living out of a suitcase, leaving Rita's hair to run wild all over Michigan, and he has added some quality players to boot.
I agree on Threet, Jethro. Even if Mallett had stayed, he had not much more experience than Threet except for gme experience of course, but Threet was highly recruited, and went to Georgia Tech, and if I;m not mistaken, they run a spread option themselves.
We'll have an exciting, up and down year in 2008, but things are looking good.
OOPS!

Who wouldn't love Ann Arbor more than Berkeley?

By the way - I don't mean to intrude on recruiting but this IS my thread and it IS UM relevant -
There had been speculation for some time, but 4 players are off the team.
OL's Alex Mitchell (starter opposite Long for several games past two years) and Jeremy Ciulla. No idea why.
Antonio Bass has fought long and hard but it's over. He'll officially not play again because of his knee.
Finally, Chris McLaurin, TE, also has a career ending injury. Considering the role of the TE in this offense and the incoming talent in Moore and Koger, you had to wonder if McLaurin would play anyhow.
But wasn't McLaurin a possibility to help the basketball team? Maybe not. Maybe it was just Webb and Butler - also both are TE's. I know nothing about Steve Watson's ability.
This offense should move down the field very quickly. Two wide, slot, TE and burner back. If Threet can make quick reads (he's extremely smart) he'll pick the defense apart.
Actually, Berkley weather can be poo. They are on the East Bay, but it is cloudy and sort of clammy alot of the time.

Been to the Frisco area before (I've been to San Fran, San Jose, Oakland, Berkeley) in April. Weather was nicer than Michigan but we're certainly not talking SoCal climate. I froze my balls off on the fairy ride to Alcatraz. Cal gets no love and he'll be just another player out there, always forgotten because the real football players in California are in LA.
